Tips for early season skiing

AccuWeather's Lincoln Riddle is out in the slopes of Whiteface Mountain Ski Resort in New York where he offers tips to anyone who plans to head out to the resort for early season skiing.

00:10He joins us live from Wilmington, New York at Whiteface Mountain ski area with some tips for the season and Lincoln boy

00:18The weather has turned in toward a very positive

00:23Conditions across many of the ski resorts in the Northeast

00:27Yeah, you know November got off to a warm start look pretty rough there in terms of snow making but that's gotten your Thanksgiving

00:34Got colder got the cold to make snow. Also got some fresh powder basically all week long

00:39We've had free refills of snow main tip

00:42I want to share with you if you're trying to get out to early season ski this December

00:45You want to check that conditions report for every single mountain that you're planning to ski at it's incredibly important that you do that

00:52Because this time of year terrain is limited

00:54Here is they're still working on their build-outs and that could mean it could be a little crowded if you're a beginner

01:00They may not have any beginner terrain for you. It may just be intermediate and advanced expert only

01:05So check those conditions reports and compare mountains

01:08There may be more terrain open elsewhere than where you had originally planned to go

01:12And and at the how many days have you skied so far and what is the season been like so far?

01:19I'm at 12 days. This is day 12. I just took two runs trying to get on this live shot here

01:24We're having some connection signal issues

01:26But this season has been honestly phenomenal for the last week up until that

01:31Like I said earlier, it was a little rough, you know

01:33The season in the East typically starts around November 1st this year really got started around mid-November

01:38So about two weeks late and even some of the major ski areas that are typically open for Thanksgiving

01:44They didn't open till this week

01:45So this weekend is the first real big weekend where there's a lot of ski areas open in the East

01:51Lincoln you and I were talking kind of earlier

01:53About kind of conditions for skiing and of course people can you know check the AccuWeather app before they go out?

01:58Can you tell us maybe some positive weather kind of impacts for skiing or days that people may not have the best experience with weather?

02:05When you're looking for the best conditions, you just want prolonged cold, you know

02:09Any snow is good snow, but prolonged cold with some days of one to two inches. Obviously a big powder day

02:15It's epic

02:16but if you've got that prolonged cold and just

02:18Days where it just keeps snowing like it has this week an inch here an inch there

02:22That's typically going to be great conditions

02:24And you know when you see those stretches of rain like next week in the Northeast it could rain a couple days in a row

02:30Well next Thursday is expected to be quite cold that could end up being a fairly icy day

02:35So that's kind of the pattern that you want to watch for

02:37You know, you can see in the rain by the way rain things actually pretty good so
