Onus on Newcastle United to maintain high performance levels

Daniel Wales looks at how Newcastle United must look to maintain the levels of performance they are capable of in all types of fixtures this season.

00:05United have demonstrated that despite accusations of the club being stale, amongst other issues,

00:11that they are still more than capable of going toe-to-toe against the best in the Premier

00:15League and coming out with results. Head coach Eddie Howe is certainly aware of this and

00:21has been very pleased with the displays against those teams at St James' Park that have fired

00:27up the crowd and earned Newcastle both points and a place in the League Cup semi-final.

00:32The challenge now is to maintain those performance levels in other fixtures against teams in

00:37and around them, something which they have struggled with this season, drawing with teams

00:42such as Crystal Palace and Everton and losing to Brighton and West Ham. If getting back

00:47into Europe is the aim at the end of the season, then this inconsistency in levels of performance

00:51cannot continue to be a factor for the magpies as the other teams in the league with quality

00:56will take their own opportunities.
