Expect feisty when Lauren Hampton takes to the stage this Christmas as Princess Jill in Jack and the Beanstalk at Southampton’s Mayflower Theatre (December 14-January 5).

00:05lovely to speak to a princess, Princess Jill Lauren Hampton in Jack and the Beanstalk at

00:11the Mayflower in Southampton this year. You are a princess, but you're going to be a bit

00:15of a feisty princess, you said?

00:17Yes, I think so. I think Jill has got something about her. She's, you know, she doesn't just

00:23lie down and, you know, take what's happening with the giant. And I think she's quite, she's

00:29got a bit of a voice, which we love, because it's lovely being a nice princess that looks,

00:33you know, gorgeous and whatever. But she's got something about her, which I think is

00:38quite fun to watch.

00:39Absolutely. And you're really pleased to be in Southampton. You've recently toured Southampton

00:43in Greece.

00:44Yes.

00:45That was useful.

00:46Oh, it was amazing. It was, you know, great. And it was amazing to have a chance to sing

00:51on the stage and to hear, you know, how much to give because obviously different theatres,

00:57you can, you sound a little bit different. And because the Make Mayflower is so beautiful

01:02and so big, I mean, it's 2,300 seats, it's huge. It's, you can hear yourself, there's

01:07a bit of an echo. So, you know, kind of how much to give and how much vocally to give

01:11so that you don't tie yourself out for two shows a day. But yeah, I can't wait. It's

01:17such a beautiful stage.

01:18And that's fantastic to have that in your armoury to know that, isn't it? But also in

01:21your armoury, the fact you loved pantos all your life. You grew up as a juvenile, didn't

01:27you?

01:28Yes, I did. I was so lucky to, at the Bristol Hippodrome, I was a juvenile, I'm going to

01:32say probably about seven, eight times. And it was, and it was what made me feel Christmassy.

01:39Every year doing the panto audition, it was like the audition of the year. And then finally

01:44getting into panto, I was lucky to do it. Working with people like Dame Barbara Windsor,

01:50David Hasselhoff, Louis Spence, Joe Swash, I think. Joe Swash and Cara Taunton was my

01:55first year. And yeah, I will always remember that. I've got memories from when I was like

02:0110, I think, of panto. And like hearing, you know, backstage, hearing the tannoy and hearing

02:08everybody chatter and stuff in the auditorium.

02:11And now you are the leading lady.

02:14Yes, I know. It's exciting. Nice full service.
