Nikki Bella is finally opening up about her messy split from Artem Chigvintsev ... calling it "really tough" just 2 weeks after they settled their divorce.

00:00Well, Nikki Bella is speaking out now about the divorce from Artem, from Dancing With

00:06the Stars.

00:07And I guess it makes sense that she's speaking out now that they have settled everything.

00:13You wouldn't expect her to say much about it beforehand.

00:16But as we told you last week, they have reached a settlement.

00:20And she got back on-

00:22And dropped the restraining order.

00:23Yes.

00:24And the restraining order was dropped.

00:25And clearly it seemed like they were doing this, I think, primarily for the sake of their

00:29son Mateo.

00:31But now that it is done, Nikki was on her podcast with her sister and had this to say

00:36about the divorce.

00:37What's interesting is I hear some subtle digs here, perhaps, and I'm sure there's language

00:42in the divorce.

00:43I hear a few as well.

00:45But they can't say things about each other.

00:47What I-

00:48So she's careful.

00:49And what I find really interesting, which I want to talk about after we hear it, it

00:53feels like this was a sudden turn, that this wasn't something that was building.

00:59I'm not sure of that.

01:01But here's what she has to say.

01:03Listen to how it went from wonderful to awful.

01:08It's been tough.

01:10It's been really tough.

01:11I've been heartbroken, sad.

01:15Yeah, you know, you dream of having this family and you have this incredible love and it just

01:22goes the other way.

01:24And you go from having a great love story to having a terrible one.

01:29And never saw any of it coming, you know, as far as like what the ending would be.

01:35So it's just been, it's been a struggle.

01:38I just, just so shocked.

01:41I was just, I've been so shocked, like beyond words, and it's been heartbreaking.

01:47And I just, you know, it just, you lose your appetite, you cry a lot.

01:52And then I also, you know, stepped up and made sure everything was okay for Mateo.

01:57And so it's just been, I don't even know what other words to use.

02:01She also said something really interesting.

02:03She said she didn't want another failed public relationship.

02:07Remember, she dated John Cena on and off for so many years.

02:12And you know, when they broke up, it was a really big deal.

02:14And she didn't want that all over again, but said that she's open to like new beginnings.

02:19And you know, she has deleted all the photos on her social media and kind of said, like,

02:23you know, this is a fresh start for her and she's looking forward to it.

02:26I heard her doing a dance there.

02:28And I mean, that is a pun, a Dancing with the Stars pun.

02:31But yeah, she's very careful not to pointedly say anything about him.

02:36But you're right.

02:37Never saw any of it coming.

02:38Never saw it coming.

02:39It was wonderful.

02:40And then suddenly it's not.

02:44But then on the other hand, she said she should have gotten out of it long ago.

02:47That feels like it was building.

02:49So there are different messages in this.

02:53But you can tell.

02:54I mean, this really took its toll on her.

02:58Different messages.

02:59But you know, her and Artem have such different stories as to what occurred that day.

03:04And even though Artem was arrested, you know, this happened back in August, he was arrested

03:08for domestic violence.

03:10Officers actually chose not to file criminal charges, not necessarily because they don't

03:15think he did it, but because they felt, you know, their team couldn't prove beyond a reasonable

03:20doubt that he did these alleged, you know, things that Nikki had claimed.

03:24Well, it was more than that.

03:25It was actually that the argument was mutual combat because she had thrown baby shoes at

03:31him.

03:32And so apparently it was a combination of the injury and the fact that they were both

03:37kind of going at it.

03:39And I'm not saying who was right and who was wrong, but that's where it's hard to convince

03:44a jury like that.

03:45But whatever it is, you just hear that this devastated her.
