In time sa mga pagbahang dulot ng masamang panahon ang bagong innovation na tampok natin tonight! Mas pinadali na kasi ang pagtukoy sa mga leptospirosis patient na high-risk pala sa komplikasyon.

00:00In time for the worst of times, we have a new innovation for you tonight.
00:16It's easier to treat leptospirosis patients who are at high risk of complications.
00:22Come on, let's change the game!
00:24Because of the following typhoon, which caused flooding on both sides,
00:34many people are unable to avoid flooding.
00:38This is one of the reasons why the number of hospitalized patients is declining.
00:44And one of the cases is leptospirosis.
00:49As of October 18, the number of cases of leptospirosis in the country is almost 6,000.
00:55Of that number, 8% or more than 500 are in WID.
01:00What if there's a clue as to who among our patients could have a severe case of leptospirosis?
01:08We can save a life.
01:12That clue can be found in the so-called biomarkers or blood molecules of patients
01:18using the leptospirosis prognosticator developed by Dr. Jose Binevado Jr.
01:24of the National Institutes of Health of UP, Manila.
01:28As soon as a leptospirosis patient has a flood,
01:30they become inflamed, and if you injure them,
01:33they can get into your wound.
01:34You can get sick, and they will cause damage to our organs.
01:39In severe cases of leptospirosis,
01:41the patient usually has a flood,
01:44where the death rate is 80%,
01:46as well as the kidney failure.
01:48And in their examination,
01:49it turns out that there's a molecule that changes the blood of the patients
01:53who have complications.
01:55Almost all of the patients who died,
01:57and all of those who had pulmonary complications,
02:00that molecule is lower than normal.
02:03If we know that these patients will become severe in the long run,
02:10we will not let them go home.
02:12They should be kept locked up in the hospital.
02:16To predict who are the high-risk patients,
02:19the first thing the RNA will get is from their blood sample.
02:23We will use this master mix from the leptospirosis prognosticator.
02:29And then we will put it in the QPCR machine to see the data.
02:33We are monitoring two molecules.
02:35If the CCFI of a patient with leptospirosis is lower,
02:40it is possible for them to have lung complications.
02:44The second molecule is called alpha defensins or DEFA.
02:48If the DEFA of a patient is higher,
02:51there's a higher chance for them to have kidney complications.
02:55The biomarker test was patented locally and internationally.
03:00It was also validated in two independent studies.
03:03We will teach our patients to wisely decide on the treatment of their patients.
03:11That's it, Kapuso.
03:12Another game-changing innovation that will help our medical professionals
03:16in leptospirosis care.
