00:00So, we are here for the launch of the giant Elf on the Shelf game in Bristol. It's a collaborative
00:09project between Bristol City Centre Bid and Redcliffe and Temple Bid and our 15-foot Elf
00:15on the Shelf will be appearing in locations around Bristol until Christmas Eve.
00:21And tell me a little bit about this giant Elf on the Shelf.
00:24So, he's a 15-foot Elf on the Shelf. He's been fabricated by a local Bristol puppet
00:30maker. And that's it.
00:33So, why? Why then?
00:36So, we just wanted to turn Bristol into a bit of a playground during the run-up to Christmas,
00:39make it a really, you know, kind of festive, fun destination for families to kind of get
00:43involved with.
00:44And you know what? We're in a very weird time in the world. We're kind of coming out of
00:48Covid. We're in a cost-to-living crisis. Why is something free like this, you know, really
00:53lift people's spirits?
00:54I think it's, you know, there's a bit about community in there. There's a bit about kind
00:58of, you know, festive joy, spreading the festive joy. We just want something, you know, to
01:02kind of unite people, get people out, you know, where they don't have to spend money
01:06and they can just kind of explore Bristol.
01:09And what is the benefit for Bristol Bid then? Is it bringing footfall to the area?
01:13Yeah, I mean, the vast majority of our projects are all about bringing footfall into the city
01:17centre. We want, you know, Bristol to be a thriving kind of central hub for everyone
01:22to, you know, work in, live in, visit. We're all about kind of improving on Bristol and
01:28making it better in everything that we do.
01:30And Bristol's Brune Elf has inspired other cities. Let's chat to them to find out more.
01:36Yeah, so the Elf on the Shelf Scout Elf is in its second year now. It was spearheaded
01:43by Redcliffe and Temple Bid in 2023. And into the second year, we've developed it into the
01:49Bristol City Centre Bid. But there's also other giant Elf on the Shelf games appearing
01:54around the UK. So there's one in Liverpool, which is our North Pole, and then there's
01:58one in Croydon as well.
