Employers and apprentices in Peterborough welcome Government employment support reforms.

00:00It's really important that they are listening to the fact that we need to get more young

00:04people into work. Young people are absolutely crucial to the future of business. For us

00:09as an employer, without the apprentices we wouldn't have a future of business. The industry

00:15has a massive deficit of people starting to those leaving the industry, so initiatives

00:20like this helps encourage that through apprenticeships.

00:22It's good to see that they're actually coming to Peterborough to see what we actually think

00:26rather than doing it from where they are, because then we can give our opinion across.

00:31I think it's certainly promising and hopefully moving in the right direction for the young

00:36generation. We need to encourage apprenticeships a lot more, and anything that helps do that

00:43has got to be a step in the right direction, definitely.

00:46I'd say apprentices are the lifeblood of many businesses in Peterborough.

00:50Oh yes, they are the future. When you have an ageing workforce, you need the young blood

00:56to be able to get the skills from the older generation passed on down, so you keep moving

01:02forward all the time. If you don't do that, you lose skill in the workshop, in the workplace,

01:08which you can't really afford to lose.

01:11My age at 23, or people who are 10 or 11 years old, when you start getting into secondary

01:20school, it needs to be promoted, because it's always just college or just university

01:25or sixth form or alternatives, and good alternatives.
