already trailblazing in terms of our ambitions of buses in Peterborough and
00:04
Cambridgeshire and in some ways hopefully it will demonstrate that the
00:08
consultation process that we've suddenly got out already got out there yeah about
00:12
the decision-making in the long term the kind of thing that has been announced
00:15
today we've had always had the benefit within a combined approach to move on
00:19
with it so I I've had a long chat with her today and also looked at
00:22
opportunities where we can share our learning and to be there as I say the
00:25
trailblazer which will demonstrate how to improve things for bus networks
00:29
across the country do you get any important changes the new Labour
00:32
government has announced today buses are a key form of public transport but for
00:36
too long the public have not been involved in any say or had any say about
00:40
how bus services run we saw that when the 36 was axed between thorny and I
00:45
into the city centre and it's taken us over a year to get that new bus service
00:49
and you for connecting thorny into system to gun so together the new powers
00:54
from the government alongside the bus franchising consultation of the mayor
00:58
and people in Cambridge give us a real opportunity to put the public back in
01:02
control of this key form of public transport it's really really positive
01:06
obviously we've been doing a lot locally over the last few months to get the bus
01:10
franchising in place in the region I'm very very supportive of it really hope
01:13
that lots of people respond to the consultation closes on the 20th of
01:16
November bus franchising gives us all sorts of opportunities to make things
01:20
better for people so who are you Peterborough a large proportion of our
01:24
students are local so they are commuting into campus so having high
01:28
quality well timetabled transport on campus is really impactful we want to
01:34
see and meet a really good bus service in this city but also going out to our
01:38
surrounding villages so we've got access to higher education that they deserve
01:43
and you
