Peterborough politicians on the buses

Political leaders in Peterborough react to proposed overhaul of bus operations.

00:00already trailblazing in terms of our ambitions of buses in Peterborough and

00:04Cambridgeshire and in some ways hopefully it will demonstrate that the

00:08consultation process that we've suddenly got out already got out there yeah about

00:12the decision-making in the long term the kind of thing that has been announced

00:15today we've had always had the benefit within a combined approach to move on

00:19with it so I I've had a long chat with her today and also looked at

00:22opportunities where we can share our learning and to be there as I say the

00:25trailblazer which will demonstrate how to improve things for bus networks

00:29across the country do you get any important changes the new Labour

00:32government has announced today buses are a key form of public transport but for

00:36too long the public have not been involved in any say or had any say about

00:40how bus services run we saw that when the 36 was axed between thorny and I

00:45into the city centre and it's taken us over a year to get that new bus service

00:49and you for connecting thorny into system to gun so together the new powers

00:54from the government alongside the bus franchising consultation of the mayor

00:58and people in Cambridge give us a real opportunity to put the public back in

01:02control of this key form of public transport it's really really positive

01:06obviously we've been doing a lot locally over the last few months to get the bus

01:10franchising in place in the region I'm very very supportive of it really hope

01:13that lots of people respond to the consultation closes on the 20th of

01:16November bus franchising gives us all sorts of opportunities to make things

01:20better for people so who are you Peterborough a large proportion of our

01:24students are local so they are commuting into campus so having high

01:28quality well timetabled transport on campus is really impactful we want to

01:34see and meet a really good bus service in this city but also going out to our

01:38surrounding villages so we've got access to higher education that they deserve
