00:00Twitter has updated its hateful conduct policy, and it seemingly no longer includes rules against
00:05deadnaming or intentionally misgendering transgender people. In 2018, deadnaming an
00:10individual or purposefully misgendering a user were explicitly classified as forms of harassment
00:16on the platform. Since then, tweets that were deemed to have hateful content were deleted.
00:21The site, however, has now quietly removed specific protections for transgender users
00:26from the policy, stating that warning labels will be placed on tweets that potentially break
00:31hateful conduct rules. Since Elon Musk took over Twitter in 2022, he has vowed the platform would
00:37promote free speech, but not the freedom of reach, as he calls it. As of April 18th,
00:42users could still report comments for misgendering or deadnaming,
00:46but it's unclear if that will change as a result of the site's updated policy.
