00:06the 24th of November at the age of 91. Barbara's novels made her one of the most successful fiction
00:12writers in the world, with more than 91 million copies of her 40 books sold to date. Born and
00:18raised in Leeds, she started writing fiction aged 7 and left school aged 15 for the typing pool at
00:24the Yorkshire Evening Post, where she became a reporter and the paper's first female editor
00:28aged 18. Her debut novel, A Woman of Substance, in 1979 stayed on the New York Times bestseller list
00:35for 43 weeks. She married Hollywood film and television producer Robert Bradford in 1963,
00:41with Robert producing 10 of her books into TV dramas. One of the most notable was A Woman of
00:47Substance, which became a global hit, securing two Emmy Award nominations. A storyteller of
00:52substance, Barbara was greatly admired, much loved and would be dearly missed by her family,
00:57friends and fans around the world.
