00:00The man asked me why I would want to adopt a broken dog.
00:04I was ready to adopt my first rescue dog, and it just so happened that the puppy was born deaf.
00:09He is so adorable!
00:11I immediately thought of my nephew, who was also born deaf,
00:15and it really sparked a fire within me.
00:18It really changed my entire life's mindset.
00:24I realized that Cole had a very, very special way with children,
00:27and a very special way with humans in general.
00:29I knew that I wanted to pursue therapy dog training for him.
00:32I wanted to change the way people think about differences.
00:36And it is a profound advantage to be in an elementary school, therapy dog, and to be deaf,
00:43because he can have 100% of his focus where he wants it on any given moment.
00:48When Cole is ready to take a nap, there is no stopping Cole from taking his nap.
00:53I love this one.
00:58I honestly, in my heart, believe Cole knows that he was born to do this job.
01:03He saw me grab his therapy vest and hopped out of the front door.
01:11I would never do anything that I thought Cole wasn't interested in doing.
01:18There's that smile right there.
01:21I adopted Cole in 2017, and I've had such an incredible journey with him
01:28that four years later, I was able to adopt Cece.
01:32So I knew from only five weeks old that Cece was deaf.
01:36And then about a year and a half later, Alice came into my world.
01:41Who's the happiest girl? Who's the happiest girl?
01:45With her beautiful face and her cleft palate and her also being born deaf.
01:51Eeny, meeny, miny, moe, which of you will get to go?
01:59Every morning, it's kind of an eeny, meeny, miny, moe
02:02of which of the three are going to be going to school that day.
02:07Where are you going?
02:08As a therapy dog handler, I can only take one dog per day to school.
02:13But we have the weekly visits with the veterans,
02:16and we are able to take the whole team
02:18because we have multiple handlers for the three of them.
02:23It's pretty neat.
02:25I know they love their job because when they see me pull the vest out
02:28in our morning routine, it's like they all just stare at me
02:31and they're like little kids just staring like,
02:33do I get to go today?
02:35And they're just so happy. It's fun to watch. I love it.
02:39When we're not working, I have to share the couch
02:42with multiple dogs during cuddle time.
02:44Sometimes we'll just chill with a bowl of popcorn.
02:47It's cuddle time every single night, and there's nothing like it. I love it.
02:54Each one of them has their own role in our mission,
02:57and it's so awesome to see the impact that each one of them has
03:01in a very different way.
