TFL’s new tram-like buses hit streets of London

New "zero-emission" electric buses will begin running on London's 358 route from Wednesday, Transport for London (TfL) has revealed.

00:07Transport for London has revealed. The vehicles, which look similar to trams but run on roads,

00:12are powered by pantograph technology which uses an arm-like structure attached to the

00:18bus roof. This enables them to be charged at each end of the 15-mile route between Crystal

00:24Palace and Orpington in south-east London in as little as just six minutes. This means

00:30drivers do not need to return them to the garages to be recharged. The Transport Authority

00:36said the changes would bring financial benefits because fewer buses are required on the route,

00:42so money could be reinvested into other parts of the network. The new buses are said to

00:48include enhanced safety features such as speed-limiting technology, audible warnings to alert pedestrians
