Charles Hanson unearths some treasures in Eric Morecambe's home

00:00Well here I am outside the home of the late great Eric Morecambe in

00:06Hertfordshire. Hanson's Auctioneers, we've been asked to handle the entire

00:11contents and sell them. Follow me. It's kind of walking into a time war. When

00:18Eric Morecambe passed away the house barely changed. It's wonderful to see

00:24history very much as it was from Eric Morecambe's time. Let me show you a few

00:30of the amazing objects lurking within. All over the house there's just a legacy,

00:38lots and memories which evoke so much in the life of Eric Morecambe. From sketches,

00:46drawings, his fishing passion and my favourite is probably this wonderful boat

00:54show sketch from 1981. An original by that great cartoonist Carl Giles. We hope

01:02it will make a few thousand pounds.

01:11So here I am in Eric Morecambe's bar and when he passed away in 84, Joan closed

01:18this door and it really just sat and did nothing. So you'll see the original 1970s

01:26wine glasses. Eric was renowned for enjoying a cocktail and it's all here,

01:32all these amazing contents to be sold and even you may just fancy a bottle of

01:38Eric Morecambe's very own champagne.

01:49Here we have Eric Morecambe's piano, his piano to be included in the auction.

02:02All the right notes but I will be selling all the right lots in definitely the right order.

02:09There's mementos throughout the house of Eric's life and who can

02:18forget the pipe-smoking Eric Morecambe as evident in this image and beside me

02:24are numerous well-smoked and also very well-chewed pipes of all fancy

02:34proportions but all very much truly functional and to be included in the sale.
