00:00Wales is a world class recycling country. We recycle significantly more than other UK
00:07nations, based on percentages, and sit second in the world. It is those high expectations
00:12that have pushed the Welsh Government to opt out of a UK wide recycling scheme.
00:19The deposit recycling scheme has been announced by the UK Government and was set to include
00:23all UK nations, but Wales has pulled out in favour of starting their own.
00:28The Welsh Government have said the decision was based on wanting to include glass in the
00:32scheme, which the UK Government have said they will not pursue.
00:36The scheme will give customers money back when they return recyclable products like
00:40plastic bottles and tins, and pulling out in favour of a Welsh plan has been slated
00:44by industry groups that say it will make it more expensive and could lead to delays.
00:50The UK plan is set to be in place by 2027, but the Welsh plan currently has no timeline
00:55for implementation.
