00:00Recycling has been a clear focus for the Welsh Government and local authorities across Wales
00:07since devolution began, and most councils across Wales are hitting appointed targets.
00:13The best of the bunch is Bridgend County Borough, who have achieved recycling rates of 73%,
00:18which is both the highest in Wales and the rest of the UK, and it also makes it one of
00:22the highest anywhere in Europe.
00:25Wales overall is one of the best in the world, currently sitting at second globally in terms
00:29of recycling rates, but some county boroughs are letting the side down somewhat and have
00:33failed to meet targets.
00:36Of the 22 local authorities in Wales, 18 have met the mark, but Cardiff, Caerphilly, Flintshire
00:40and Wrexham County councils all missed their targets and could now face hefty fines from
00:45the Welsh Government.
00:46By 2024-25, all councils across Wales will need to hit 70%.
00:52It would be an impressive feat considering recycling rates were below 5% just 25 years
00:57ago.
