00:00The Malaysian Animal Welfare Association

00:03suggested that the government implement the New Territory Trap Program,

00:07a more humane approach in dealing with the problem of abandoned animals.

00:11The NGO said that the approach was proven effective in controlling the population without violence,

00:18while supporting the request of former Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob

00:21so that the government reviewed the 2015 Animal Welfare Act.

00:26He said that in practice, this act is very important

00:29to ensure more effective protection against abandoned animals,

00:32especially in dealing with violence,

00:34such as shooting at animals at will.

00:38Yesterday, Ismail, who is also a former Prime Minister,

00:40appealed to local authorities to kill the abandoned animals as much as possible

00:46and comply with the 2015 Animal Welfare Act,

00:49which has been passed by the parliament.

00:52Meanwhile, the SAFM urged the government to cooperate with the Department of Veterinary Services,

00:57the BPT and the NGO

00:59in an effort to solve the problem of abandoned animals

01:03more systematically and effectively.
