00:04A derelict former garden centre which is popular with urban explorers

00:08could become home to a new canal-side water sports business.

00:12The former Cromford Garden Centre closed in 2006 but could now gain a new lease of life

00:17through plans filed to Derbyshire Dales District Council.

00:21Peak U Kiakeng Ltd wants to demolish the remaining buildings on the derelict site on the A6

00:26and build a new headquarters with its current Cromford Wharf base not built near the canal.

00:31The firm manufactures clothing and other material for water sports

00:35including canoeing, kayaking and paddle-balling

00:37and has supplied World and Olympic champions since 1990.

00:41It plans to build a new community hub and activity base

00:44which will allow children to try kayaking who might otherwise not have had the opportunity.

00:51Overnight snow has caused problems on the roads this morning

00:54with a number of roads including the Snake Pass closed due to heavy snowfall.

00:58Several schools across Derbyshire also closed today
