00:00The European Union won't suspend the political dialogue with Israel, as no agreement has
00:09been reached during the Foreign Affairs Council held this Monday in Brussels.
00:16The proposal came from Josep Borrell, the European Union's foreign policy chief, who
00:20pointed out violations of human rights and international law in the Gaza Strip.
00:26As the suspension of political dialogue depends on unanimity among member states, Borrell's
00:31plan didn't pass.
00:33The Cypriot foreign minister told Euronews that it was neither the right time nor the
00:37right way to put the issue on the table.
00:52Given that the lack of majority seemed obvious, why did Borrell put the issue on the table
01:23According to analysts, he was trying to leave his mark before a new European Commission
01:28takes office.
01:30I think that to an extent this is an initiative that comes out of months of political frustrations
01:40that not only the high representative but some member states have felt, where Europe
01:49has been literally unable to take a clear stand vis-a-vis of this conflict.
01:56So to a certain extent, Borrell, who is outgoing from his mandate, this will be his last foreign
02:06council ministry.
02:07So I think that this is like an attempt also from him to sort of leave a mark and leave
02:14a positive legacy.
02:17In the near future, much will depend on the new U.S. administration, as some ministers
02:21acknowledge at the end of the meeting.
