00:00Scream by Wiggins, Curry gets Donchich again. Scream by Draymond, Curry gets Lively again.
00:06He wants a three. Yes, he does. Backs up, shoots a deep three over Lively. It's good! It's good!
00:14The Warriors lead by four with 26.4 to go. And Stephen Curry beating his chest, talking to the crowd.
00:23Dub Nation, it's the voice of the Warriors, Tim Roy. You're listening to Willard & Dibbs on 95.7 The Game.
00:30I mean, stream of consciousness here. Tim Roy is going to join us here on the River Islands guest line literally in seconds.
00:36Seven minutes ago, Draymond Green tweeted, man, that take was everything it was supposed to be. Wow.
00:44The hell's he talking about? What take? I don't know. His take? His take? Steph's take to the hole?
00:51Like, I don't know. Is there a game going on right now that I don't know about? Maybe. It's 3-19 on a Wednesday.
00:57Maybe it's a poker hand and he took the pot. You know? It's a great take. I don't know. I don't know.
01:04I do know that Tim Roy had a great call last night, and I listened to you on the postgame on the way home, Tim,
01:11and it really sounded like you had yourself a whale of a time last night. That's what it sounded like.
01:18Yeah, we had a great time last night. I wonder, maybe Draymond's acting on a movie. Maybe he's just doing another take.
01:25That's also a good take on his, that's a great take, Tim. Very well done.
01:30Like, I don't know, Tim, what stood out other than the obvious? You know what I mean?
01:35Like, where did that kind of sit for you on the list of regular season memories?
01:41You know, it's really high up there. It really felt like a playoff game, but it had that nostalgia of having Clay back in the building
01:50and everybody showing him love, but then once the game got going, it was back and forth.
01:56Both teams had double-digit leads. Both teams had big runs, and it just felt like a playoff game.
02:03It was really, really cool. The atmosphere was great. The fans were great all night long.
02:09It started with the tribute to Clay, which was really well done, and ended with Steph Curry showing us he's still the one.
02:17Did you notice a change in the crowd? Because Mark and I were there, Tim, and it felt like Clay hits the first three and the crowd goes wild,
02:24and he hits another one and they're happy, and then he hit back-to-back threes that prompted a timeout,
02:29and he did the shimmy-shake, and it felt like at that moment the crowd realized Clay is now a Dallas Maverick.
02:36Was there a moment where you felt a shift in the history of Clay Thompson as a player?
02:43Yeah, I think it's kind of a natural thing, though. You see him back in the building and you're so happy to see him.
02:48Oh, he hit a three, just like old times. Oh, he hit another three, and all of a sudden, hey, he's hitting a three to beat us.
02:54We've got to stop this now. The nostalgia part ends, and now you're rooting against him because he's wearing the other team's colors.
03:02So I think that's kind of a natural shift that would go in any of these type of games.
03:07I liked Steph's comment about the shimmy. He knows better than that.
03:13I thought it was great to see those guys compete against each other.
03:18I think there's always been a great respect between the two, a great love between the two,
03:24but I'm sure this has happened before in many practices or pickup games before the season
03:31where they go at each other because they're both prideful guys.
03:35They both want to prove that they're the best, and between the two of them,
03:40when Mark Jackson made that prediction years ago, he was absolutely right.
03:44They were the best shooting backcourt in NBA history.
03:48All right, Tim, let's share with the audience the comment that you're sort of referencing.
03:52This is on TNT with Ali LaForse when Steph Curry talked about Clay's shimmy.
03:56We know how much respect you have for Clay, but when he did the shimmy,
03:59you were shaking your head. What were you thinking when you saw him pull that off?
04:04He knows better than that.
04:06Okay, there it is. So that was great stuff.
04:10You also had really good seats for the game last night.
04:13Could you hear what he was saying with that unbelievable reaction after the night, night three?
04:19Absolutely not. You know, we're halfway up the building.
04:22He was down the far end looking at a TV camera.
04:26We had no clue what he was saying.
04:28You couldn't hear last night during that moment.
04:31It was all noise.
04:32You know, it's kind of like a wave of noise comes over the top of you when that happens.
04:36And no, I still don't know exactly what he said.
04:40You know, in his postgame press conference, he said he couldn't think of it either
04:44because it was just in the moment, just screaming, you know, half joy,
04:49half like I'm showing you so, you know, that kind of thing.
04:53So it was great. It was a great moment.
04:55And, you know, you can't ask for a better regular season game than what you saw last night.
05:01Is that the best regular season atmosphere that you've been a part of at Chase Center, Tim?
05:07Well, I'd have to go back and think about it.
05:10You know, maybe not.
05:12I'd have to go back and look at maybe the 21-22 season
05:16and see, you know, look at some of the regular season games there.
05:19But it's definitely in the top two or three.
05:21I mean, it probably is the best, Dan, but off the top of my head,
05:25I don't want to say so if I forgot a game somewhere along the way.
05:28Tim Roy is with us, and we're still basking in the glow of everything that was last night
05:34right here on 95.7, the game, Willard and Dibbs, the voice of the Dubs,
05:38with a great call of this whole thing last night.
05:41So, like, I'm curious.
05:43I mean, we get the whole sort of concept of the brotherly love and whatnot,
05:49but at the same time, like, there are clear, complex feelings here.
05:55If somebody who didn't understand Warrior basketball came to you and said,
05:59describe to me what's going on with these three right now, what would you say?
06:04I'd say they're three guys who went through a lot of very tough situations
06:09and grew up together in the NBA, and they started when the team wasn't that good
06:14and climbed and made it one of the best teams in NBA history,
06:18one of the great dynasties in NBA history, and have put this franchise on the map.
06:24Before the Warriors were sold to Joe Lincoln and Peter Guber,
06:28it wasn't a very valuable franchise, and now it's the most valued franchise,
06:33I think, other than the Cowboys, I think, in the U.S.
06:37And so I think there's a lot of pride in the accomplishments,
06:43and so when one of them leaves, I think there's always a little, you know, like,
06:47oh, okay, well, this is, I think it's, A, I think it shows them that it is coming to an end,
06:53you know, that this is not going to go on forever.
06:56I think they all wanted to spend, the three of them wanted to spend their careers,
07:00you know, as Golden State Warriors.
07:02It didn't work out that way, and so I think right now they're saying,
07:05okay, well, it's great for you, and I think it is the best move for Clay.
07:08I think so.
07:09I think he needed to leave to rediscover his joy of basketball
07:13and his joy of life just wasn't working for him anymore.
07:17And so I think, you know, Tremont and Stever say, okay, we have work to do still.
07:23We still think we can win a championship here, and that's what we're focused on.
07:27And so I think the three of them will reconvene, you know, after their careers,
07:32and sit down and talk and do all the things that, you know, retired players do
07:37and reminisce, and they'll come back for celebrations
07:40in their various championship teams, and there'll be a lot of good feeling then.
07:45But right now, he's a Dallas Maverick,
07:47Stephan and Tremont are Golden State Warriors,
07:50and they're both going for the same thing.
07:52And looking at those Warriors in particular, those two,
07:55and just how they're playing, and the team is 9-2,
07:58and Steph looks to be every bit the player that he was when he won an MVP,
08:02and Tremont looks rejuvenated.
08:04What have you made through 11 games of just those two, and how good they've looked?
08:09They've looked really good.
08:11I think Tremont's in a really good space.
08:13I think he's back to loving every single second on the floor,
08:18which maybe wasn't the case the last couple of years.
08:21And I think that, you know, Steph, I think, is rejuvenated with a new challenge,
08:25with new teammates, and, you know, new coaches,
08:30they bring a fresh look to the whole pattern.
08:33And so I think that they're excited.
08:36I think they're excited about playing again.
08:38I think it shows.
08:39And the other part of the equation is, unlike when we were kids, you know,
08:43when you get to your mid-30s now, the training is so good, the science is so good,
08:47the nutrition is so good that players are lasting longer and longer.
08:50So these guys still have good basketball, you know, yet to play.
08:54And I think the fact that they've found pieces that fit in with what they do,
09:00you know, guys who share the ball, guys who defend, guys you can switch with on defense,
09:05it's made all the difference in the world.
09:07Their championship teams always had a really good defense,
09:10and I think that's what they're trying to get back to.
09:13Tim, I know last night was 11-man rotation, not 12,
09:17and a couple of them didn't play that many minutes.
09:19But still, we get the point.
09:22Everybody's going out there, and now with the 9-2 record,
09:25people are starting to think this is sustainable.
09:27I still don't know if Steve Kerr thinks that.
09:29What do you think?
09:30I think it's sustainable as long as they can, you know,
09:34vary it day-to-day, match-up-to-match-up, you know, what's working on that night.
09:38I think that way, if you're playing eight minutes one night, you know,
09:42well you're okay because you know maybe the next night you're playing 28 minutes
09:46because the match-ups will be a little bit different.
09:49But again, you know, it's worked before in Warrior history.
09:53Al Adels did it back in 74-75, and he played, you know,
09:5710 guys roughly about every game, and the only guy who got, you know,
10:01consistent minutes into the 30s was probably Rick Barry.
10:04So I think it can work.
10:07And I think the other part is that, you know,
10:09last night was the worst night of the year for the bench.
10:11They couldn't get anything going.
10:13Any of the combinations really didn't work last night.
10:16But, you know, the previous 10 games, the bench was really good.
10:19And what that will do is if you can go through games surviving
10:23non-Steph minutes, non-Draymond minutes, and even add on to your lead,
10:28then that's going to cut the minutes down for Draymond and Steph
10:31over the course of the year.
10:33And that means, hopefully, that they're fresher at the end of the season
10:37than they would be if they have to play, you know, 35 a night.
10:40The fifth starter, it's kind of been a bit of a rotational position.
10:44DeAnthony Melton of late has done it.
10:47What have you made of his play and just how well he fits in,
10:50not only with that starting group, but this team on the whole?
10:54I think he fits in perfectly because he can defend.
10:58He's got length.
11:00He can hail the ball a little bit.
11:02He's a willing passer.
11:03And he can shoot a three.
11:05So those are all the things that you want to see with a Golden State Warrior.
11:08And I think he fits in.
11:10I think the fact that he's on the floor at the beginning of the game
11:14can actually improve their bench because now you look at the bench
11:18and you're bringing Pajemski, you're bringing Kamingo off the bench,
11:21you're bringing Kavon Looney off the bench.
11:23And what a job he did last night.
11:26So you're bringing really good players off the bench,
11:29players that could be starters in other situations
11:32and have been starters with the Warriors.
11:34So that's going to add to it.
11:37I think he could stay reasonably healthy this year.
11:40I think he might be the key to that starting five.
11:44So much for the Steph and Draymond are too old crowd, I guess, huh?
11:49Yeah, I don't think they're there just yet.
11:51I think Father Time is undefeated.
11:54Sure.
11:55They are.
11:56You can go to your favorite sports book.
11:58They're undefeated.
11:59You can't bet against them.
12:02I think right now they're showing that they're in great shape
12:07and they've got a great mindset,
12:09and I think they're enjoying playing for Steve Curran, for the Warriors,
12:14and it shows on the floor.
12:16The word they use is joy,
12:19and we're seeing a certain amount of joy with the Warriors in this early season.
12:23And I have to tell you, at the beginning of the road trip,
12:26I was saying, boy, if they could get the first two
12:29and then get one of the last three, I think that would be a great road trip.
12:32But to go 4-1 on that road trip
12:34and your only loss is against a team that was just red hot
12:38and is a really good team and a very well coached team by Kenny Atkinson,
12:44to come home 4-1 and then have to play a day later
12:48against the defending Western Conference champs
12:50with two of the best playmakers in the league in Kyrie and Luca,
12:53and then you've got Clay and the emotion of that night,
12:56to be 9-2 at this point is really impressive.
12:59I did not expect this kind of start,
13:02but boy, they are really, really playing well.
13:05Yeah, Tim, we asked fans going into those last three road games
13:08and then this game last night if they would take 2-2 before they happened,
13:12and everybody said yes.
13:14Everybody would have loved 2-2, and they went 3-1.
13:17The last three teams on that road trip were 22-1 starting the night of the Boston game.
13:2322-1, and they won 2-3.
13:26I think that's impressive.
13:29Great call last night, my friend.
13:30Thank you. I appreciate that.
13:32Yeah, great to hear you today. Thanks for coming on.
13:35It's always good to chat with you guys.
13:37I'm looking forward to Friday and Memphis,
13:40but it's nice to have a day to kind of reflect on last night and everything.
13:45It was great to see Clay, and I'm happy to see him playing and having fun again.
13:51I hope it works out for him with the exception of three other regular season games.
13:56Yeah, exactly, and we appreciate you coming on, Tim,
13:59because every time, you know what it is, right?
14:01It's a conversation sensation is what it is.
14:04Cha-ching!
14:06No, saying that just warms my heart.
14:08It makes me feel like I'm an elation sensation.
14:10Ah, there it is!
14:11There we go!
14:12Cha-ching!
14:13Pay the man!
14:14I thought for a minute you were actually going to hang up and go throw up.
14:17Maybe that's it.
14:19Well, then I'd be a regurgitation sensation.
14:21Yeah!
14:23That's what I'm talking about!
14:25You can't stop him.
14:26I mean, the man is just a genius.
14:28Roy!
14:29I'm doing my Curry voice.
14:30Tim Roy.
14:31Wow.
14:32Good stuff, Tim.
14:33We'll talk to you soon.
14:34Thanks, Tim.
14:35All right, my friend.
14:36Tim Roy.
