00:00The Kuala Lumpur High Court on Tuesday fixed December 19th to deliver a decision on the
00:05money laundering and tax evasion case involving Datan Sri Rosma Mansor.
00:11The court set the date to decide Rosma's application to quash her charges after hearing
00:15submissions from both parties.
00:18Rosma had filed to quash the 12 charges of money laundering involving more than 7 million
00:23ringgit and five other charges of failing to declare her personal income to the Inland
00:28Revenue Board.
00:30Rosma argued that the charges were bad in law and infringed her right to a fair trial
00:36under Article V of the federal constitution.
00:39She also said the non-declaration of income tax could never be a predicate offense on
00:44its own.
00:45The prosecution argued that the charges were not flawed, and the court is fully capable
00:50of determining whether the income is taxable, and it should not be bound by any determination
00:56made by the income tax commissioner before trial.
00:59In 2018, the wife of former Prime Minister Datuk Sri Najib Razak claimed trial to the
01:06money laundering and tax evasion charges.
01:09She allegedly engaged in transactions involving proceeds of unlawful activity by causing some
01:14seven million ringgit to be deposited into her bank account.
