Chef accused of murder teenage boy in Sydney’s southwest bush

A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a teenage boy in Sydney’s southwest. Jacob Grieg is accused of stabbing the teenager after an altercation on Friday night/early hours of Saturday morning.

00:26The court heard the boy was intoxicated and trying to get a lift home from the campsite

00:31late on Friday night when the chef, who police say he didn't know, allegedly attacked him,

00:37slashing his right forearm.

00:40Prosecutors telling the court the accused threatened to kill him and chop his hand off.

00:46Some of the altercation was captured on CCTV.

00:50Police say the bleeding teenager jumped on Mr Greig's car then fell off.

00:55Detectives identified a 30-metre long trail of blood extending from his body.

01:00The accused's lawyer says the matter will be contested, questioning whether the fatal

01:05injuries could have been the result of the teenager's fall from the car roof.

01:10The matter that's come before the court today is a very serious matter.

01:14If my client's found guilty, there is a likelihood of a lifetime imprisonment.

01:20With family members offering support and a second baby on the way, he urged the court

01:25to allow Mr Greig home detention.

01:28The magistrate denied the request for bail, describing the prosecution case as strong.

01:34He said if convicted, Jacob Greig faces many decades behind bars, with sounds of shock

01:41coming from his family in court.

01:43Mr Greig is due back in court in January.
