00:00Three different academics from three different universities came together to survey a group
00:07of young people about their experience of sibling-on-sibling domestic violence.
00:12And the findings that they came up with were pretty shocking.
00:15More than 70% of young people reported experiencing emotional abuse at the hands of a sibling,
00:22so things like denigration, verbal abuse, yelling.
00:28Also things like challenging their sexual and gender identity was part of that emotional
00:33abuse.
00:34A really high proportion also said they were physically abused by a sibling, 65%.
00:40One in four said that they had experienced threats of violence and threats to kill by
00:46a sibling, and around 14% said that they had suffered non-fatal strangulation at the hands
00:54of a sibling.
00:55But it's really important to note here that the line between victim and perpetrator is
00:59not necessarily clear cut.
01:02The research found that around one in five respondents said they had both used violence
01:07against a sibling, but also experienced it at the hands of a sibling.
