00:04Recent research from Griffith University puts the estimate at about one in two young children
00:11and young adults saying that they have witnessed or experienced domestic and family violence
00:17through their lifetime.
00:19That's a much higher figure than was previously estimated.
00:23And it comes with research that proves that there are a range of adverse effects as a
00:28result of either witnessing or experiencing directly violence in the home.
00:34Things like mental health concerns, PTSD, not meeting behavioural, developmental or
00:43academic milestones, as an example.
00:45And the research also shows that people who grow up around violence are both more likely
00:51to be victims of violence in adulthood, but also much more likely to use violence as perpetrators
00:58going forward in adulthood too.
