Man in custody over death of a woman in Melbourne’s north-east

Homicide detectives have arrested a 33-year-old man after the discovery of a woman's body in Melbourne’s northeast.

00:00Emergency crews were called to a home in Reid Street in South Morang, which is about 20

00:07kilometres northeast of Melbourne CBD, around 10 o'clock yesterday morning.

00:14And that is where they discovered the body of 35-year-old Nikita as a party.

00:20A 33-year-old man has been taken into custody for questioning by homicide squad detectives.

00:26He's also of South Morang.

00:29And understandably, the restricting family of Nikita as a party is really struggling

00:35to come to terms with her death.

00:37We spoke to her brother, Sean, who said that the family first became concerned when Nikita

00:44failed to turn up to a family barbecue on Saturday and also failed to respond to a series

00:52of texts that they sent her.

00:54This is what he had to say about his sister.

00:58She'll do anything for anyone, she's a gentle soul, she'll help anyone.

01:02She always is a good listener, I've told her many, many things, you know, she was an earpiece

01:07for me and she was my younger sister as well, only 35, and yeah, and she just didn't see

01:16the bad in people, always saw the good.

01:18And that's it, and yeah, so, yeah, I'm going to miss her, it just feels like a dream, you

01:28know, it doesn't feel real.

01:33That's Nikita as a party's brother, Sean, and he says that she was actually seeing the

01:3833-year-old man who has been arrested.

01:42He says that the last time he saw his sister alive was when she'd organised a go-karting

01:47outing for his son's 15th birthday.

01:51And he says if he only had have known at the time that that was the last time he was ever

01:55going to see her, he probably would have talked to her more, asked her questions, maybe

02:01even taken more photos, and he says that he just simply does not know how his parents

02:07and his brother are going to be able to cope with this, he's trying to stay strong for

02:11his family.

02:13We've heard also from Homicide Squad detectives, they are continuing their investigations,

02:19and they say that the exact circumstances surrounding her death is yet to be determined.
