Maurizio Cattelan’s Infamous “Banana” Artwork, Comedian, expected to fetch $1m at auction

Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan’s iconic piece, Comedian—a banana duct-taped to a wall—is expected to fetch between $1 million and $1.5 million at Sotheby’s on November 20. David Galperin, Sotheby’s head of contemporary art for the Americas, describes the piece as a work that “elevates something banal into something extraordinary.”
