00:00The first International Conference on Women, Peace and Security or ICWPS is being held in the Philippines.

00:09Almost 700 delegates consisting of foreign ministers and members of the peacemaking organizations

00:17in the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City are attending.

00:20The occasion of Forging Collaboration and Convergence on Advancing Women, Peace and Security has a theme.

00:26First Lady Lisa Araneta Marcos will lead the ICWPS.

00:31I am delighted to join our government officials in welcoming the delegates of the International Conference

00:39of Women, Peace and Security to the Philippines.

00:44Since this summit is about women, my husband, Ferdinand Marcos, asked me to personally convey our welcome

00:55and to let you know that the Philippines is honored to host a conference of this significance and stature.

01:02Let's give a big round of applause to all the women, to welcome our women and also our men to our beautiful country.

01:11Once again, welcome to the Philippines.

01:14United Nations Secretary General Amina Mohammed also hosted the conference.

01:19The world is facing unprecedented challenges and though we may not know how to tackle them all,

01:25there is one thing we know for certain, it is imperative that women are at the core of our solutions.

01:32The Philippines appointment of the world's first women chief negotiator for a major peace agreement

01:38setting an example by ensuring that one third of the people at the peace table were women,

01:44which is the minimum target that we have set ourselves in the United Nations.

01:48Some government officials also spoke.

01:51They were accompanied by Department of Budget Management Secretary Amena Pangandaman,

01:55Presidential Advisor on the Peace Process Carlito Galvez,

01:58and Department of Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo as keynote speaker.

02:03This conference is an invitation to meaningful conversations towards forging stronger partnerships and renewing our sense.

02:11The purpose of the International Conference on Women, Peace, and Security is to make the Women, Peace, and Security Agenda institutional

02:18by giving voice to women and introducing their participation in the promotion of peace and security.

02:26Foreign ministers and international delegates and members of peacemaking organizations from 84 countries are gathering.

02:35For today's activities, there will be two ministral or high-level segments.

02:40First, they will discuss on how to enhance partnerships between states to build sustainable, gender-responsive peace and security.

02:47Next, they will discuss on implementing actionable women, peace and security strategies, and other practical measures.

02:54After that, there will be general discussions with international organizations and civil society organizations.

03:01The high-level segment will aim to create a platform for government stakeholders

03:06to study and review the implementation of the Women, Peace, and Security Agenda of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325.

03:14There will be a passing declaration after the sessions.
