00:00I'm here in Jervis Bay for the final week of the Maritime Big Play Autonomous Warrior
00:06military exercises involving the three AUKUS partners, Australia, the United States and
00:12the United Kingdom.
00:13It's part of pillar two of the AUKUS arrangement which involves knowledge sharing between the
00:17three major military powers.
00:20As you can see behind me, this is the kind of technology that's on display.
00:23This is called the Speartooth.
00:25It's a large subsurface autonomous vessel that's able to deliver a payload up to 3,000
00:31kilometres away.
00:32It's just one example of the kind of military technology on display over these past three
00:37weeks.
00:38Other examples include the Ghost Shark which is an extra large Australian Navy developed
00:44underwater vessel.
00:46We understand that during the three weeks, all these vessels have been on display for
00:50representatives of the United States, the United Kingdom and even Japan to observe some
00:55of this technology on display.
00:58Representatives from the Australian Navy say this is an example of the kind of knowledge
01:01sharing arrangements that will be in place under the AUKUS arrangement.
01:06What we've seen here over the past couple of weeks is the ability for Australia, the
01:10United States and the United Kingdom to operate our autonomous systems seamlessly together
01:15and to improve the way that we can deliver autonomous effects in a combined way.
01:21We're working closely with industry partners here on the ground to be able to trial, test
01:26and improve the hardware that our militaries are using.
01:29We know that globally our allies and our adversaries are developing autonomous systems and we definitely
01:39don't want to be left behind and we do want to be able to counter their technology with
01:44effective technology ourselves.
01:46Australian defence companies which have shown off their technology at these three week defence
01:51exercises say that Australia is actually at the cutting edge of autonomous vessels.
01:57They say AUKUS is a chance for them to share this knowledge as the AUKUS partnership develops.
