Conservatives lead in Bulgaria's legislative election exit polls

Bulgarians cast their ballots in the seventh general election in just over three years, with former Prime Minister Boyko Borisov's centre-right GERB party projected to lead with 25-27% of the vote.

00:11It's the seventh general election in just over three years, with Bulgaria facing growing

00:16political instability that could encourage the rise of pro-Russian and far-right sentiment.

00:22Only two of the six general elections since 2021 have produced an elected government.

00:27However, they both collapsed after trying to introduce reforms and cut remnants of the

00:31country's reliance on Russia. The latest vote, held in June, produced no clear winners,

00:37and the seven factions elected were unable to put together a viable coalition.

00:43Borisov's GERB party is on course to win between 25 and 27 per cent of the vote,

00:49followed by the reformist coalition PPDB at around 15 per cent and the ultra-nationalist

00:55Razreddin party at around 13 per cent.
