00:00We are a not-for-profit music charity and venue.
00:05We are the home of the Royal Northern Symphonia.
00:08We also have the Foilmate Music Centre, which is our education centre,
00:13where we'll do classes for adults, young people, anyone really, from 0 to 100.
00:19As well as their educational work, Glasshouse also put on films with the live orchestra,
00:24such as the Halloween night showing of Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho,
00:27which Gemma assures me will be well worth coming to.
00:29Why it's different here is because, as well as watching the film,
00:32you'll hear the R&S play the live score, which is, like, beautiful.
00:37Even though it's a scary film, the experience of hearing that music live
00:41and being in the room, like, at points you don't know what to look at
00:44because you're, like, watching the orchestra and you're watching the film.
00:47I think it's just a bit of a different experience, it hits differently.
00:51Still scary, though.
00:52Psycho's sense of dread and panic is successful in major part
00:55because of the Bernard Herrmann score.
00:57So chilling during the infamous shower scene.
00:59But imagine what that sounds like with the full force of the Northern Sinfonia
01:03bouncing around your eardrums.
01:05Events like this really do bring films to life.
01:07The staff here work hard to ensure that every performance or class
01:10brings music to life for all customers, whatever the occasion.
01:13We do classes for, like, toddlers and parents who want to come in
01:18and experience music for the first time.
01:20We do bursaries to help people get into music education
01:24who maybe it's not possible for them.
01:26And we work with adults with special educational needs
01:29as well as, like, if you just want to join a choir
01:32and come and sing with people, we have a class for that too.
01:36I asked Gemma if this sort of work was important to Glasshouse's ethos
01:39and how they see themselves.
01:42Music is for everyone.
01:44Like, whatever your experience with music is,
01:47it's, like, something that speaks to everyone across languages,
01:52across experiences.
01:55And so what we want is for people to come here
01:58and experience that and have that.
