Pistorius: Müssen auch mit Harris mehr für unsere Verteidigung tun

Unabhängig vom Wahlausgang in den USA ist Bundesverteidigungsminister Boris Pistorius (SPD) davon überzeugt, dass die Europäer mehr für ihre Verteidigung tun müssen. "In jedem Fall müssen wir mehr tun", sagte Pistorius in London.

00:00I mean, the elections in Washington will have a result whatever.

00:06But our responsibility in Europe is to strengthen the European angle, the European pillar of NATO.

00:11This is what we should have done earlier, from my opinion. I'm convinced about that.

00:16But we didn't. I always stress that the Baltics and the Scandinavian countries,

00:22they woke up in 2014 with the election of Crimea.

00:28We woke up too, Germany, Britain, France and other countries in Europe.

00:34But what we did was we pushed the snooze button and turned around.

00:39All the other countries stayed awake and they did what was necessary to do.

00:45And so we lost almost eight years. And we have now to speed up.

00:51And therefore it is, of course, of importance because we trust on the Euro-Atlantic Alliance

00:56and the Euro-Atlantic Solidarity and Friendship.

00:59But besides that we have to do more because in any way the US will shift their focus more to the Indo-Pacific for reasons we all know.

01:08So it is only a matter, a question of will they do much less in Europe because of that or only a little bit less.
