00:04According to the New York Times, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin confirmed this assessment
00:09to reporters Wednesday. He said it was not currently clear what the North Korean troops
00:13are doing. South Korean and Ukrainian officials had been making similar claims for the past couple
00:18weeks. South Korean lawmakers said Wednesday that their northern neighbor had sent 3,000
00:22troops to Russia and has promised thousands more. Russia and North Korea have both denied
00:27these claims. Western powers have also previously said that North Korea has been helping Russia's
00:32war effort by providing it with artillery rounds. NBC News reports that South Korea's
00:37intelligence service released satellite images purporting to show North Korean troops at Russian
00:41military facilities. The service also claimed to have used AI facial recognition to spot a
00:46specific North Korean soldier in a photo taken in Ukraine.
