00:00Well, obviously, the FA had a bit of controversy announcing the first ever German manager to
00:07take charge of the national team. I mean, third ever foreign manager, it looks like
00:12they've gone back down, obviously, the foreign route. It's possibly the best decision in
00:18terms of a tournament manager who's available on the market at this time. What's your thoughts
00:24on it? Because it is quite controversial, as I say.
00:28Well, yeah, as you say, you mentioned Eddie Howe, and Eddie Howe's come out and said that
00:33he wasn't even one of the 10 that was approached by England. So,
00:40if anyone called on Eddie Howe, if England didn't think he could go, A, they didn't think he could
00:45get him, or B, they didn't want to pay the compensation for him, you know, it's a report
00:49of £5 million, and they didn't want to pay that. So, who else do you go and get if you
00:54want an English manager? Do you go and get Graeme Potter, or struggle to Chelsea, did
01:00well enough for Brighton, but, you know, has he had the coaching created to now manage
01:09England? And otherwise, who else do you go and get in terms of English managers? And
01:14we've heard a lot about the investment that's gone into, you know, like the EPPP, etc, and
01:22St George's, but are England producing enough coaches? Now, back to Thomas Tuchel, for me,
01:30I have to agree, if you look at the managers who, A, are out there and have been able to
01:35want the job, because some might not want the job, he was probably the best of the bunch.
01:42Yeah, I can understand the divided opinion. Some people think that international football,
01:47you should stick to your own and have an English manager. So many other countries have done it,
01:51they've never appointed a foreign manager. But personally, England have got one of the
01:56greatest squads we've ever seen, arguably the greatest, and you've got to have a manager who's
02:01capable of winning tournaments. Thomas Tuchel is one of the very best in the business when
02:05it comes to knockout football. He's won the Champions League with a Chelsea team that was
02:09far from convincing in the years after he left, at the time after he left. And you've also got
02:15the, well, the midfield, I think is so important to unlock with the likes of Jude Bellingham,
02:20Cole Palmer, Phil Foden. He's so good, Thomas Tuchel, at working with number 10s, and I think
02:25he's the perfect fit. So German, English, I don't care what his passport is. I don't think England
02:30have got enough talent in coaching at the moment, and Thomas Tuchel should be the man to take them
02:34forward. And in terms of Tuchel as a manager, I think he is a fantastic manager in terms of
02:39CV speaks for itself. So top clubs, he's won the Champions League, managed in two Champions League
02:43finals, and that would be the one thought with Tuchel, that just he's coming in, he's suddenly
02:48being parachuted in, expect to do a job straight away, maybe certain aspects of the culture he
02:52perhaps is not totally up to speed with. But look, we'll see, and to reiterate, I think he is a top
02:57quality manager, Thomas Tuchel.
