Snow begins falling in the Northwest as storm arrives

A wintry storm is packing a wallop for the western U.S. from Oct. 17-20.

00:00We're kind of between rounds of this in Seattle, but the two big storms here in the West.

00:04Weekend western wallop because a couple areas are going to see, yes, a wallop of weather because

00:09the first one we're going to track, Jeff, is going to be right across the four corners,

00:12this area of low pressure. That's going to kick off a chance of showers,

00:16some storms, and yes, even some snowfall in the higher elevations.

00:19And this is bringing that chill down that we've been waiting for for so long in Phoenix.

00:23Some of the high elevations in southwestern Colorado into the San Juan Mountains could see

00:27feet of snow above 9,000 feet, but snow levels overall probably around 6,500 feet there.

00:34Lots of impressive snowfall totals will be ongoing. And then as you look across the

00:37northwest, here's that other part of the wallop. We're going to see some

00:40heavy rain totals here across some high rain totals across Pacific Northwest.

00:45Yeah, this next storm is going to bring higher snow levels as well. In other words,

00:49the elevation at which if you travel up from the valley floor, you have to travel higher

00:52up into the balance to get from rain to snow. It's going to be a warmer storm,

00:56but a really, really wet one here with some huge rain amounts on the west-facing slopes

01:00of the mountains here. We'll be watching this very carefully here as we head into the weekend.
