00:00It's arguably the Canberra Liberal's signature policy, a major expansion of the urban footprint
00:08into a new district at Cohen, currently a pine plantation.
00:1280% of the 125,000 homes the party wants to build by 2050 would come here.
00:20Elsewhere the opposition would continue with existing plans for developments such as at
00:25Sorrowbred Park and the old CSIRO Ginninderra site.
00:29That's one area where the two major parties have something in common, another is their
00:34desire to increase urban density around commercial areas.
00:39But Labor's overall plan for urban infill goes much further.
00:43It's committed to a missing middle design guide to look at where to build more properties
00:48such as townhouses and duplexes.
00:51The Greens are promising to go further still, pledging to change residential zoning to automatically
00:56allow medium density housing anywhere across Canberra.
01:01As for Sorrowbred Park, rather than building homes around the edge, the Greens want to
01:05get rid of the racecourse in its current spot and build an entirely new suburb.
01:10With the population expected to crack half a million in the next term, housing promises
01:15to be a critical issue for whoever makes up the next government.
