00:02Scientists in Oxford have received funding to develop

00:05the world's first ever vaccine for ovarian cancer.

00:08Ovarianvax is a vaccine that teaches

00:11the immune system to recognize and

00:13attack the earliest stages of ovarian cancer.

00:16The cancer research funded team will receive

00:19600,000 pounds over the course of three years for the study,

00:24which if successful,

00:25will see clinical trials of the vaccine begin.

00:29Ovarian cancer is the sixth most common form

00:33of cancer amongst women in the UK.

00:35There are around 7,500 women

00:38diagnosed with the condition every year.

00:41According to Target Ovarian Cancer,

00:434,000 women die from ovarian cancer every year in the UK.

00:48Symptoms of ovarian cancer,

00:50according to Cancer Research UK,

00:52can include feeling full quickly,

00:54loss of appetite, pain in your abdomen,

00:57or lower part of your abdomen that doesn't go away,

01:00bloating, or an increase in the size of

01:02your abdomen and needing to urinate more often.

01:05Other symptoms can include unexplained tiredness,

01:08unexplained weight loss, and a change in

01:10your bowel habits especially if you're over the age of 50.

01:15There is currently no national screening

01:17program for ovarian cancer.

01:19Unfortunately, ovarian cancer is often

01:21diagnosed at a later stage.

01:23In fact, Target Ovarian Cancer found that

01:2527 percent of women were diagnosed

01:28after an emergency presentation such as going to A&E.

01:32If you suspect that you have the signs and

01:37your GP so that this can be investigated.
