QLD Opposition leader announces new water projects ahead of election

It's halfway through the Queensland state election campaign with the Opposition leader hitting the hustings in the state's west to announce new water projects if the LNP is elected.

00:00David Cricifulli has visited Longreach, which falls in the very safe LNP seat of Gregory.

00:08He announced if elected, an LNP government would spend more than $120 million on shovel-ready

00:15water projects across the state.

00:17It would include new weirs, building one on the Boyne River in the North Burnet, one on

00:23Baramba Creek in the South Burnet, and several on the Thompson River in Central and Western

00:28Queensland.

00:29The LNP would also review the state's water plans in the next four years.

00:33Mr Cricifulli has ruled out recycled water and desalination plants, instead committing

00:39to build a new dam in the South East.

00:42We will map out a strategy to build water security for every part of Queensland, but

00:47particularly for the growth corridors that are needed for population.

00:51It is a non-negotiable that we need additional capacity and we need new water supply and

00:58water security for the South East.

01:00The LNP has also committed to rebuilding Paradise Dam in the Wide Bay Burnet.

01:05Mr Cricifulli will return to Brisbane this afternoon as the state election campaign hits

01:10the halfway mark.
