Steven Miles announces boost to frontline health workers

Queensland Premier Steven Miles has visited the Sunshine Coast announcing funding for expectant mothers as abortion issues dominate this week’s election news cycle.

00:07Premier Stephen Miles has pledged an additional $20 million for services for pregnant women

00:13if Labor is re-elected.

00:15That money would be used to expand services at hospitals like this one and in Townsville

00:20and Logan, and to hire additional health practitioners and sonographers.

00:24There's also been money pledged to expand services for termination of pregnancy, which

00:30is a timely announcement, with abortion hogging the news cycle this week.

00:35The LNP has fielded many questions over whether they will repeal abortion laws in Queensland,

00:41with State Leader David Christopher Lee saying it's not part of his plan.

00:45However, Premier Stephen Miles has seized on the opening again today.

00:49We are expanding services that we know the LNP and the Kata Party and One Nation Party

00:55all think should be illegal.

00:57They're all services that those parties don't believe women should have access to.

01:03Now we're here in the electorate of Kiwana.

01:05It's held by Deputy LNP Leader Jarred Blay and is a safe LNP seat.

01:11The candidate for Kiwana for Labor wasn't at the press conference today.

01:15Last week, Premier Stephen Miles forgot his candidate in another electorate, and the same

01:19has happened again today.
