The Great British Night Out, where they're heading to one of our world famous pubs, a
00:06
restaurant for a meal or a nightclub to dance the night away. The aim of the game is to
00:10
have a good time. Behind the scenes, more than two million people are now working in
00:15
hospitality as door staff and even taxi driving to make it all happen. But with rising crime
00:20
rates in general in the UK, there's a dark cloud cast over the night time industries.
00:24
In the latest figures, there were 181,000 drug offences in England and Wales compared
00:29
with 179,000 in the previous year. On average, the police receive more than 500 reports of
00:35
spiking each month. Along with a binge drinking culture that we're known for across Europe,
00:40
comes a rise in the number of drunk and disorderly charges. Greater Manchester Police report
00:44
the biggest increase there. They saw a 57.75% jump in arrests for the crime in a single
00:50
year. And anecdotal evidence from taxi drivers shows, as they often work alone, they're
00:55
often the focus of verbal and physical abuse, theft and robbery. David Lowry of the National
01:00
Private Hire and Taxi Association says more needs to be done.
