About 600,000 employees would require re-skilling in 3 to 5 years
00:06
with the growth of artificial intelligence, digitalization and the green economy,
00:11
said Human Resources Minister Stephen Sim.
00:14
Sim said Telencorp's report found that most of these jobs were from labor-intensive industries,
00:20
namely the wholesale and retail trade sector and food manufacturing and services sector.
00:26
However, Sim said the report, which will be made public in November,
00:30
must not be viewed cynically and negatively.
00:34
He said while some jobs would diminish, it did not mean that people would be out of work
00:38
as a sunset rule can emerge in another sector.
00:43
Sim said the first report focused on 10 major economic sectors,
00:47
which contributed about RM933 billion or 60% of the total gross domestic product in 2023.
00:56
He said there were four emerging jobs across the 10 sectors,
00:59
namely AI engineers, data analysts, data scientists and sustainability coordinators.
01:06
Sim added that the study, which will be ongoing and provide regular updates,
01:11
would look into the impact of AI and future trends, among others.
01:17
