Transcript
00:00Welcome back to TMZ Sports, Mike Babcock here.
00:07There's an absolutely massive UFC fight going down this weekend, a great, great fight.
00:13Two incredible strikers, Alex Pereira, the UFC's light heavyweight champion, taking on
00:18an absolute, a beast of a fighter in Khalil Roundtree.
00:23There is a crazy story, I don't know how to describe it, there is no right word and there
00:29is a connection between Khalil and Boyz II Men and obviously I know so many of you will
00:35recognize Sean Stockman, who is on the screen, is actually joining us right now.
00:40Sean, first of all, thank you so much for being here.
00:44Tell me if I'm wrong here and please fill in the blanks, but you go back and obviously
00:49Boyz II Men has been around and successful for so long.
00:52Back in May of 1992, Khalil Roundtree's dad, Roderick Khalil Roundtree, went by Khalil,
01:00was tragically shot and killed at your hotel as you guys were on the road.
01:08Khalil, Khalil Roundtree, the fighter's dad, was your tour manager and I had no idea.
01:16I found that out this week and obviously Khalil is now about to have the biggest fight of
01:20his entire career.
01:22Sean, do you guys have a connection to Khalil?
01:27Have you stayed in touch over the years?
01:28Of course, little Khalil was only about two years old, so he was such a young guy when
01:32his dad was tragically taken.
01:34Have you guys stayed in touch?
01:36We stay in touch.
01:37We used to see each other a lot more when he was younger, but obviously, you know, time
01:42happens and he went off to be this amazing, incredible UFC fighter, which was a shock
01:50in a pleasant way to me.
01:52Just to see him, knowing him as a baby and remembering him as a little baby and seeing
02:00him grow up to be this incredibly athletic, incredibly strong ass whooper is amazing.
02:08But it's really, I mean, the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree.
02:12His father was also very much a person that you didn't want to find out about either.
02:19So it's in his blood.
02:21So to some degree, it's not that surprising.
02:23I just didn't think that personally it would get to a point where he would be a professional
02:28fighter, which we're very proud of.
02:32I won't lie, I haven't seen him in a long time, I haven't seen him in years, but that's
02:37little Bergeron.
02:38That's what we used to call him.
02:39That was our little nickname for him, Baby Bergeron.
02:43It's a weird name, it's a long story, but that's what we used to call him and he was
02:47just the cutest, sweetest kid.
02:50And we're proud of him that he's grown up to be such a reputable fighter.
02:56And I know his dad is very, very proud.
02:59Yeah, I was gonna say, what do you think his dad would have thought?
03:04You knew his dad well, watching his son fight for the UFC title.
03:08Extremely proud.
03:09I think that if Khalil was alive today, he would be sitting right in the sidelines with
03:13his big cigar and his big rings and watching his son do his business.
03:19I know he would.
03:21Again, it's not that much of a surprise considering that he grew up under a fighter.
03:27His father was a fighter.
03:28His father was a strong man and not just the father to him, but the father to me and the
03:33guys as well.
03:34So no surprise here and I know he's going to get the championship for sure.
03:40And this is so cool.
03:41Now Nathan's here.
03:42Hey, Nathan.
03:44Are you planning to watch, and I know you guys are in the middle of a tour and you got
03:48a bunch of shows.
03:49I'm sure you're busy, you know, got a lot going on Saturday night.
03:52Do you think you're going to be able to tune in even if it's a little bit later on in the
03:55night?
03:56Yeah, we're going to try to watch it or either tape it either way.
03:59Yeah, we got about three shows in a row the next few days.
04:02I think it is something like that.
04:03But yeah, no bro, it's like, this is amazing.
04:06I mean, it really, really is.
04:08I mean, it's one of those things where you look at kids and you just never really know
04:11where their lives are going to go.
04:13And then, you know, you go through those psychological things and you think about how he didn't have
04:17a dad with him and, you know, would he be like his dad or what it's like all it's just
04:22interesting to watch how it all comes full circle on it in its own natural way.
04:26I guess if he was watching this and hopefully Khalil will see this, what would you say to
04:32him?
04:33Or is there any message that, you know, as you said, Sean, you haven't had a chance to
04:36talk to him in a few years or anything you'd say to him as he gets in there before the
04:39biggest night of his professional career?
04:41Kick his ass and do well, you know, I mean, you know, just just use that that fire that
04:47we know that you have in you.
04:48We know why you became the fighter that you become.
04:51You had a lot of, I guess you could say, divine inspiration to become great at what you do.
04:59So just finish the job, whoop his ass, finish the job, raise the belt up high and know that
05:06this was always your destiny and this is always something that you were meant to do
05:09to be a fighter and to carry that legacy, that spirit on like that your father had.
05:15Maybe he wins that belt and, you know, sometime in the future, you guys can come together
05:20at one of these UFC fights like you walk them out or something.
05:22Anything you'd be into?
05:23Oh, yeah.
05:24Yeah.
05:25Yeah.
05:26That'd be sweet.
05:27Guys, thank you so much for sharing this.
05:29It's a I mean, it's it's it's obviously it's a it's an incredibly sad story, but also really
05:33cool, you know, that that all these years later, you can go watch it out there doing
05:37his thing.
05:38Let's hope he wins the next one, man.
05:39Maybe maybe if we are the next one, he has a championship fight when he's fighting with
05:43after he get his belt, then we'll come sing the national anthem.
05:45Everybody say he will win.
05:47He going to win.
05:48He's going to win.
05:49He's going to take that title.
05:50And like I said, we're proud of him.
05:53And we know that he has a different level of of spirit behind him when he gets behind
05:57that ring.
05:58I know who he's going to be thinking about.
05:59I know what's going to be the fuel to his whole fight energy.
06:03So it's all good, man.
06:05We're just going to make sure that we catch the fight.
06:08We're going to catch the victory.
