00:50Hello from the headquarters of Telesur English in Havana, Cuba.
00:53This is From the South.
00:55My name is Pablo Micheliche.
00:56We begin with the news.
00:5811 of six people were killed after an attack on a residential block following 17 raids
01:03by the Israeli air forces.
01:05The attacks set fire to an apartment in a multi-story building in the residential neighborhood
01:11of Bashura, not far from the United Nations headquarters, the prime minister's office
01:16and the parliament.
01:18In the last 24 hours, at least 46 people have been killed and 85 others wounded in a war
01:24that has claimed more than 1,000 lives in Lebanon.
01:34UN Secretary-General António Guterres confirmed that the United Nations peacekeeping forces
01:39for Lebanon remain in the country despite Israeli demands for their withdrawal.
01:44According to the Secretary's office, the Sionist government demanded the withdrawal
01:48of the peacekeepers from positions near the Blue Line, the de facto border between Lebanon
01:54and Israel, claiming that they were trying to protect the UN forces.
01:59However, the UN has taken both operational and political decisions to stay.
02:08And Hezbollah leaders have denied that the Israeli regime is attacking military targets
02:12and reaffirmed that, on the contrary, Tel Aviv is targeting the civilian population.
02:19The Lebanese resistance stressed that there were no weapons of any kind in the buildings
02:24targeted by the Israeli forces.
02:26The movement emphasized that the systematic aggressions against residential areas by
02:30the occupation entity will only increase the determination of the Lebanese people to support
02:36their resistance.
02:41The State of Law coalition leader Nouri al-Maliki honoured the legacy of leader Hassan Nasrallah
02:48in his struggle for the liberation of the people.
02:54Sajid Nasrallah was not satisfied with liberating southern Lebanon.
02:58He made his way to the region.
03:00He did not stop at the borders of Lebanon, but his position was with his brother wherever
03:05the challenge was, with the Syrians in the face of the sectarian strife that took place
03:10and in Iraq, when he stood with us on the issue of confronting ISIS and its accomplices.
03:16In other news, Russian authorities described the United States' policies in relation
03:21to the Middle East conflicts as a failure.
03:24Russian Foreign Minister Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova warned that the crisis in the Middle
03:29East is worsening and the White House statement demonstrates its inability to cope with the
03:35situation.
03:36Zakharova stressed that the vague statements of the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken
03:42triggered thousands of casualties and brought the situation to a dead end.
03:47According to the spokeswoman, the recent events demonstrate the incompetence of the Biden
03:53and Lin administration in resolving the conflicts in the region.
04:02And almost a year after the Israeli genocide against Palestine and the peak of conflict
04:08in the Middle East, Maidel Hazar el-Sadani, human rights advocate and executive director
04:14of the Tahrir Institute for Middle East Policy, says the role of the United States has been
04:20extremely detrimental to the region.
04:44Let's take a short break, but remember you can join us on TIKTOK, where we will be sharing

05:18We'll be right back, stay with us.
05:34Welcome back to From the South.
05:35In Argentina, citizens mobilized to protest against funding cuts by the government of
05:41amid increased security measures by the authorities.
05:44Members of social trade unions, human rights, educational unions and student organizations
05:50of the university front gathered at the legislative headquarters where they protested in defense
05:55of the university's financing law and demanded the veto of the law of retirement mobility,
06:01in addition to rejecting the massive layoff, the growing unemployment and poverty, product
06:07of measures used by the government of Mille.
06:10This broad unity between academic union students and social sectors has reinforced the demand
06:16for a state present to ensure education and decent work for all Argentines.
06:25This was the second federal university march during this first year of Javier Mille's government.
06:30Rallies were also held in the provinces of Cordoba, Santa Fe, Misiones, Tucumán, Taca,
06:35Catamarca, Mendoza, La Pampa, Santa Cruz, among others.
06:40In this sense, the crisis of educational financing with special impact on the decrease of teacher
06:45salaries and on the condition of the scientific system was one of the central issues of the
06:51document read in the Congress Square in the central act of the mobilization.
06:57Well, the march is good.
07:02We're here to defend our rights.
07:03All Argentines have the right to have access to a free public university.
07:07We're the first generation so that the other generations can continue to have access to
07:11it.
07:12Today, we are here to defend not only our rights, but also the rights of our neighbors.
07:20And in spite of the massive march of the federal university that gathered more than one million
07:24people in the streets of Argentina, President Javier Mille announced that he will veto the
07:28law for financing the sector.
07:31In an attempt by the executive to delegitimize the demands of the mobilizations, they maintained
07:36that the university is not at risk, although the budget fell more than 30% in one year.
07:42However, the head of the state, through a statement, ratified that he will veto the
07:46law and ask the legislators not to make demagogic populism.
07:55We changed topic.
07:56Colombia's National Unit for Disaster Risk Management announced measures to deal with
08:01the growth in the Amazonia.
08:03The director of the institution, Carlos Carrillo, decided to take immediate action after assessing
08:08the water situation in the region, visiting the affected indigenous settlements, and holding
08:13an emergency technical commission due to the low rainfall in the Amazon.
08:18These measures include the structuring of a specific action plan to deliver tanks, water
08:23treatment plants and pressure pumps to 11 indigenous communities.
08:28The growth has interrupted the connection to Puerto Nariño, a critical point that is
08:33damaging the pink dolphins in the ecosystem and the water supply for around 10 indigenous
08:39communities.
08:40We go now to Venezuela.
08:45President Nicolás Maduro conducted an inspection visit to the road rolling plan of the National
08:50Steel Complex and urged the population to remain united to confront the destabilization
08:55upturns of the strained right-wing.
08:58During an official conference, the Venezuelan head of state emphasized that despite the
09:02unilateral sanctions imposed by the United States and its European allies, the country
09:06has managed to overcome the imperial blockade.
09:10In this sense, President Maduro underlined the importance of reaching 100% production
09:16at the steel complex located in the Antimano Parish of Caracas.
09:21He also showed that despite the multiple attempts of the Venezuelan strained right-wing to exercise
09:26violence in the country, the people have consolidated peace.
09:36We have managed to consolidate peace, some conspired against peace, they tried to burn,
09:41they tried to kill, they did damage, the fascist sectors did damage.
09:52But the union of the people, the strength of the Venezuelan state, the constitution
09:57and the law were more powerful than all the plans to lead us to violence.
10:05Claudia Sheinbaum signed her first presidential decree recognizing on behalf of the Mexican
10:10state that the acts of violence perpetrated on October 2, 1968 against the student movement
10:16were crimes against humanity.
10:19From Mexico City, Antonio Randa gives us the details.
10:23The student struggle of 1964 marked the beginning of a deep democratic change in Mexico, but
10:28it was marked by violence and serious human rights violations.
10:33Tens of thousands of young students demonstrated peacefully in defense of civil liberties and
10:38democracy.
10:50The message and objective of the movement was very much picked up.
10:58The democratic freedoms, part of those who picked up and have been picking up since then
11:02And that message, that practice, that rebellion, that struggle, is the fourth transformation.
11:12Claudia Sheinbaum fulfilled the slogan October 2 is not forgotten and dedicated her first
11:16conference to commemorate this student movement.
11:21Today, in the first morning conference of the people and maintaining the continuity
11:26of the fourth transformation, we will dedicate it to October 2.
11:36President Sheinbaum emphasized that the assassination of the young students at the hand of the Diaz-Ordaz
11:40government in the Tricultural Square in Tlatelolco in 1964 paved the way for the democratic transformation
11:46of Mexico.
11:50It was a movement at that time, and if you look at it, their demands were for no repression
11:55and democracy.
11:57Those young people later paved the way for the democratic struggle in the country and
12:00what we are living today.
12:03So let's hope that the youth will always be close to the people.
12:07As they do every year, the survivors of the 1964 National Strike Council gathered in the
12:16Tricultural Square to commemorate 56 years of these tragic events.
12:24Let freedom continue to expand in Mexico, that there be more democracy, more participation
12:29and above all, that there be justice for the workers and the exploited people.
12:37The people marched to the capital Zócalo and the students recognized that the struggle
12:41for democracy and human rights continues.
12:51It is worrying that year after year, we have the same demands, and now we are joining the
12:55issue of the 43 disappeared.
13:00The current government expressed its commitment to offer guarantees of non-repetition of events
13:05such as those of 1964, which it considered to be serious human rights violations.
13:12For this reason, President Claudia Sheinbaum instructed the publication of a decree containing
13:16a public apology on behalf of the Mexican state to the victims of the act against humanity
13:20committed on October 2nd, 1964.

14:00In the Dominican Republic, President Luis Abinader announced Wednesday that he will
14:04carry out an operation to expel 10,000 illegal Haitians every week.
14:09According to the head of state, the objective is to prioritize security in its territory,
14:14which shares a border with Haiti, shaken by the violence of criminal groups.
14:18The plan includes the strengthening of border monitoring and control through increased deployment
14:24of specialized personnel and equipment, a protocol for the identification of migrants
14:29and their return.
14:31The announcement was made at a press conference following a meeting of the National Defense
14:35and Security Council led by the Dominican president.
14:44The first thing is the security of the Dominican Republic.
14:47Then we will explain if we need to give that explanation why we are doing it, but we do
14:52not need to give an explanation to respect our immigration laws that are fundamental
14:56for any country.
15:12Chile decided to apply to the International Olympic Committee to host the Olympic Games
15:16in 2036.
15:18Let's see.
15:21Chile aims to strengthen its bid to host the 2036 Olympic Games and offer guarantees to
15:26the International Olympic Committee of a state commitment to its organization.
15:31The decision was taken after the country's good experience with the 2023 Pan American
15:35Games.
15:36The Chilean Minister of Sports, Jaime Pizarro, highlighted that after the meetings held in
15:41the French capital a month ago, during the development of the Olympic and Paralympic
15:45Games Paris 2024, the Chilean authorities are waiting for the communication from the
15:50International Olympic Committee for the progress of the postulation.
16:09The 12th Buenos Aires International Documentary Film Festival opened in Argentina, with more
16:16than 130 productions on display.
16:18The films will be divided into seven competitions, focuses, retrospectives and special screening,
16:25and will be presented in seven venues throughout the territory.
16:29This year the event proposes a selection of films with different perspectives.

16:39Carneiro da Cunha.
16:41There are also films from Switzerland and Belgium which will compete in the international
16:47category, while the Ibero-American productions include Savannah and the Mountain by Portuguese
16:53Paulo Carneiro.
16:59In Saudi Arabia we will discover Al-Fa, a city lost in time, buried under the sands
17:04of the desert that holds secrets of ancient civilizations, let's see.
17:13An archaeological gem located at the intersection of Wadi Ad-Dawasir and the Tuwaiq cliff in
17:18the heart of Saudi Arabia that has been a key trading center since the Sumerian era.
17:23Because of its strategic location in Mesopotamia, it became a meeting point for cultures such
17:28as Akkadians, Babylonians, Persians, Greeks, Romans, Arabs and Ottomans.
17:35Each of these civilizations left their mark in architecture, art and daily life.
17:40Recent excavations have revealed palaces, temples and artifacts that transport us to
17:45a rich and complex past.
17:47This place is more than ruins, it is a window into millennia of human history.
18:03Its vestiges connect today's inhabitants with their ancestral roots, strengthening the sense
18:07of community and belonging.
18:10Extreme weather conditions, erosion and the passage of time threaten this priceless heritage,
18:15but archaeologists and conservators work tirelessly to protect this treasure and pass
18:19it on to future generations.
18:32ALFA is currently at the center of an ambitious restoration and enhancement project.
18:37Thanks to the efforts of archaeologists, historians and volunteers, this treasure of humanity
18:43is being revealed to the world, with its recent inscription on UNESCO's World Heritage List.
18:48Giving recognition to its universal importance and a call to the international community
18:53to protect this unique legacy.
