Jim Burke and I'm standing in Hopkins River Ward of Warrnambool City Council.
00:05
I'd really like to achieve a few things but mostly what's prompted me is the need to continue
00:14
the style of counselling we've had. In the past we've had some fairly disrupted
00:19
councils who weren't achieving very much and they were taken over by this council at the last
00:25
election. They've adopted a collegiate style that seems to have worked very well but some
00:31
aren't standing and there was a need to fill up the spots with people who could work in that
00:36
environment. I'd like to get some work going on the Ziegler Parade Bridge which has been left in
00:42
limbo for several years now. It will be a long-term project because it will cost a lot of money
00:48
but it's something we shouldn't lose sight of. I'm concerned at development in the city that
00:54
it's being done on planned piecemeal. One example is the Briley Oval and Community Centre opposite
01:05
two childcare centres. All of them on their own, good projects, together will change the nature of
01:14
that precinct and do some real damage. I would also like to see the council maintain a high
01:22
level interest in a homeless population of Warrnambool who are really suffering at the
01:26
moment because social housing is extremely limited. That's not a council issue but there
01:32
are other ways council can help the homeless. Thank you very much.
