Jim Doukas speaks to The Standard about why he's running for the Moyne Shire Council.

00:00Who are you? I'm Jim Dukas and I'm running for a position on the Moonshire Council.

00:06I've been on there quite a few years now and I hope to get re-elected.

00:10And why are you running again? I think apart from the people telling me

00:15they'd like me to run again, I think that a rural shire needs a stabling influence and

00:22being on there a few years I think I'm one of the stable ones there.

00:27Self-praise is no recommendation of course but there's a lot of new candidates running,

00:33there's only three councillors that are hoping to get re-elected so I just thought being a

00:40councillor for a few years, a stable influence and everything that goes with me, history.

00:45Perfect and what are your three priorities if you get onto council?

00:47Well I don't sort of have an explicit priority. I believe that the council,

00:54especially rural councils, need to be, and I use the word conservative but it's not a

00:58political term, what I mean is steady, a steady ship. I mean good financial planning,

01:05projects that are of benefit to the whole community. I know some communities are only

01:11small but they too need their town hall fixed up or their oval etc. So it's a wide spectrum of

01:20what needs to be done in the shire and everybody needs to be treated fairly and in these times with

01:26federal and state money being very tight I suppose strong financial management is of the utmost.
