The Environment Agency is currently investigating an oil spill from the Stanlow Oil Refinery. The issue of the spill was first raised by a cockle fisher.

00:00The Environment Agency is currently investigating an oil spill from the Stanlow oil refinery.
00:05The issue of the spill was first raised by a cockle fisher on the North Wirral shoreline.
00:10The North Western Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Association said due to a recent pollution
00:14incident in the mouth of the River Mersey, Leeso Cockle Fishery will not be opening on
00:1930th September 2024.
00:21Following consultations between the Food Standards Agency and Mersey Port Health Authority, it
00:25has been determined that opening of the fishery will be deferred to a later date.
00:29The Environment Agency said they are investigating an incident of oil pollution in the River
00:34Mersey that occurred on 12th September and have taken swift action.
00:38SR Energy were approached for comment and a spokesperson for EET Fuels said,
00:43We identified the source and took immediate action to rectify it.
00:47We informed the Environment Agency who attended the site.
00:49We have also undertaken inspections to identify any potential impact on the waterways.
00:55We will continue to cooperate fully with the Environment Agency.
