00:00Modern classic motorcycles, probably the most visually appealing two wheelers, not just
00:09in India, but globally.
00:16And Triumph with the Speed 400 has really hit the mark and with me, this is Triumph's
00:22latest offering, the Speed T4.
00:25I'm going to take you guys through whatever we get on this motorcycle because this is
00:29the more affordable version of the Speed 400.
00:36Welcome back to DriveSpark, I'm Vedant Johari and stay tuned for the whole video.
00:44Now starting off with the design of this motorcycle, at the front we get the classic circular headlamp
00:49that we see in other neoretro motorcycles and this is a split style headlamp.
00:54Right at the centre of our headlamp, we get the Triumph logo and our main headlamp unit
00:59is located on either side.
01:01The top and the bottom section are for our high beams.
01:05Now moving on to our indicators, we get these really sleek indicators in the smoke finish,
01:09however with the indicators on, it doesn't reduce visibility at all.
01:13So at the front we get telescopic suspensions with 17-inch alloy wheels and it looks really
01:18really good.
01:19Now we get a vertical radiator as well because this is a liquid cooled engine.
01:22I'll tell you about the engine specs a little later on in the video and now moving on, we
01:26get disc brakes in the front, bi-brake calipers and now moving on to the side design of the
01:31motorcycle.
01:32So now looking at the side view of it, as you can see, this is where the whole neo-retro
01:36stance really comes out.
01:38Here, drop shaped tank and at the front of our tank, we get these two grooves for when
01:42you want to turn, the forks that we get in the front, they won't damage our tank.
01:46Now apart from that, we get an offset fuel cap and the tank comes in this very nice triple
01:50tone finish, black, grey and red.
01:54Now we get a few white elements on it such as the Triumph logos on either side and the
01:58speed written at the centre of our tank.
02:00Now we get the 400 as this is a 400cc motorcycle on either side and here we also get place
02:06to keep our thighs for when we're riding.
02:09So now coming to the seat, well we get this elongated seat as you can see with this ribbed
02:12pattern and this again just enhances the whole classic look, the whole retro look of the
02:17motorcycle.
02:18Also the seat that we get is 10mm more cushioned than the Speed 400, giving us a more comfortable
02:23ride for when we require it.
02:25Now moving on to the complete rear side of this, we get a very neatly styled grab handle
02:30and we also get a very neatly styled taillight.
02:34Now the taillight is nicely housed between the mudguard and the beginning of our body
02:39on the rear, again just blending into the whole motorcycle, not standing out and creating
02:45a different appeal, just taking one with the whole motorcycle.
02:49Now we get the Triumph logo also located on our tail lamp and we get the same indicators
02:53that we get on the front at the back as well.
02:56Now coming to the mirrors on this, well we get the circular mirrors that we see in most
03:00retro motorcycles, in most neoclassic motorcycles and the switchgear also we get is very very
03:06simple, very minimal, nothing too extreme, we don't get toggles such as up, down, left,
03:12right for our instrument cluster, it's everything that's needed.
03:15Also we get this small information button on our switchgear to control all the meters,
03:22all our readings we get on the instrument cluster.
03:24Now moving on from that, let's talk about the seating position, let's talk about what
03:29the engine of the motorcycle has to offer.
03:43I, for example, am 6 foot 1 and the seat height of this motorcycle is 806mm.
03:52Now as you guys can see, let me put this hand up for you, so as you guys can see, I can
03:56comfortably rest my feet flat on the ground and even for people who are around 5'8",
04:025'9", even they will be able to rest flat.
04:05So now coming to the rider's angle of the motorcycle, as you can see, I'm in a very
04:10comfortable position, I'm not aggressive, nor am I reclined, I'm just what I need,
04:15I feel like I'm in control of the motorcycle, I feel like I'm in command of the motorcycle
04:19and now coming to the main powertrain of this PT4.
04:23Powering this is a 398cc liquid-cooled engine, single cylinder that produces 31 horsepower
04:30and 36Nm of torque.
04:33Now most of the power we feel in the lower range because the low-end torque of this is
04:38tremendous.
04:39You can get going from third gear at around 20-30 kmph and you don't feel the engine knocking,
04:44you don't feel it thumping, it'll take you, it'll accelerate the speed very linear, it's
04:49not an aggressive acceleration, but it will get you up to speed even if you're doing lower
04:54speeds on higher gears.
04:55So now coming to the gearbox, we get a 6-speed gearbox, the gears do feel a little clunky
05:00and when you need to downshift, even if you're rev-matching, you may feel it struggle a bit.
05:06However, as you keep riding the bike for a distance, as you get used to it, you will
05:10understand the whole mechanism of the gearbox and accordingly, you'll alter your riding
05:14style based on what the motorcycle likes.
05:18So it does take some time to get used to, however, it's not an inconvenient feature.
05:23Now coming to the whole rideability of this, coming to how it is in traffic, well, this
05:29PT4 is extremely comfortable.
05:33It's light, it weighs 180 kgs, but you don't feel that weight when you're riding.
05:39The telescopic forks make it that much more easy to manoeuvre from left to right.
05:44The whole design of the motorcycle has been changed, has been altered to just give you
05:50a much more easier ride.
05:53When we were riding it, we rode it through peak traffic in Bangalore and most of you
05:57guys know, Bangalore traffic is unbearable.
06:00However, with this, it became a little more bearable.
06:04We were going through small roads, wide roads, bumpy roads, tarred roads, everything and
06:10it was, and the bike did not struggle.
06:13The engine did not heat up, the suspension, the front or rear suspension didn't act up.
06:19It felt extremely good to ride.
06:22However, when we're in extreme bumper to bumper traffic, that is the only place where you
06:28will feel the heat radiate out of the engine.
06:30Otherwise, even if you're riding in normal traffic, you are going to feel comfortable.
06:35It's only when you get very close, when you're moving at probably 5-6 kmph and when you're
06:41mainly at a standstill with the engine on, that's when you may feel your legs start to
06:46heat up.
06:47You will have to deal with that, you will have to get used to it, but once you're back
06:50into motion, it's again, a comfortable ride.
06:53So now, I've told you guys about the engine, I've told you guys how it is to ride, but
06:57what does it sound like?
06:58Is it a soft sound?
06:59Is it loud?
07:00Is it thumpy?
07:01Is it smooth?
07:02Well, I'm going to show you guys right now.
07:14Let us know what you guys think of the exhaust note in the comment section down below.
07:18So now coming to prices of the Speed T4.
07:21Well, this is priced at Rs. 2,17,000 ex-showroom, whereas the Speed 400 is priced at Rs. 2,40,000
07:29ex-showroom.
07:30So as I said, this is a more affordable Speed 400, however, it does lose out on some of
07:35the premium features that we get on the Speed.
07:37All in all, that being said, this is still a brilliant ride, where you still get the
07:42main safety features that you need, such as dual-channel ABS, twin disc brakes, and the
07:47engine is also extremely refined.
07:49All in all, this was a quick review of the Speed T4.
07:52I hope you guys enjoyed this video, don't forget to like, comment and subscribe.
07:56My name is Vedant Johari, signing out.
