People of London: Would you report shoplifters?

We ask Londoners if they’d report shoplifters, and why they think there has been a recent increase in stealing from shops.

00:00If you were to see it in a shop, is it something that you think huge flags people or maybe

00:05do you think that people are just doing it because they need to? What are your thoughts?

00:09I think it depends really if somebody was sort of stealing food or nappies,

00:12then probably not but I know there's sort of organised gangs that go around stealing

00:17really expensive things so I think it depends on what the case was really.

00:22I'd probably make a huge assumption on the person that was shoplifting to be honest

00:30and if I felt that they needed to do it then I probably wouldn't report it.

00:38More and more people these days are resorting to those kinds of crimes just because of the

00:44cost of living and the high cost of food. Yeah I can't say it's surprising with the

00:51cost of living crisis but I have heard of sort of organised gangs and people

00:55stealing things to order so that yeah that is concerning really.
