Welcome to Média TV and Zoom in this cultural chronicle on the 22nd edition of the Tanjaj Festival.
00:16
And as you can see, dear viewers, we are at the Palais des Institutions Italiennes
00:22
which obviously hosts all the concerts scheduled for this edition.
00:27
And we are more precisely next to one of the new scenes created for this 22nd edition of the Tanjaj Festival.
00:36
And to talk about it, I have the pleasure of having with me Moulay Ahmed El Alami, president of Tanjaj.
00:43
Moulay Ahmed El Alami, thank you very much for accepting our invitation.
00:47
So, as I said, a new scene. What can you tell us about this new arrangement here at the Palais des Institutions Italiennes?
00:55
Yesterday, we started with the opening of the Palais des Arts.
00:58
And every year, we try to bring small novelties, both in the way of living the festival and in the experience of the festivalgoers.
01:07
So, it is very important for us to offer people moments of sharing in good conditions.
01:13
So, the Pasio scene will host the first concert at the Palais des Institutions Italiennes
01:18
with a dance class accompanied by great musicians, Sugar Pie and Candyman.
01:24
And every day, so Friday and Saturday, we will be on this scene to start.
01:29
And then we will do the closing, the jam sessions that come back to the Palais des Institutions Italiennes in this very beautiful space.
01:36
And then we will live between the inside and the outside.
01:39
We will have fanfares outside, the two concerts on the big stage, the BMCI stage.
01:43
And then we will have here, on the Volkswagen stage that you see behind me, the more jazz, more intimate concerts.
01:52
So, the two spaces will cohabit.
01:54
This is also a first in jazz time, because before it was the big concert on the big stage.
01:58
And then people will go inside.
02:00
There, the two spaces will cohabit.
02:02
So, we will offer people the possibility to stay in the two spaces.
02:05
So, spaces of restoration, of relaxation.
02:08
They will be able to rest here or there.
02:10
And so, spend from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. all their evening discovering artists.
02:17
We have Moulatou Astatke who will open tonight, a legend of Ethiopian jazz.
02:21
It has always been a desire to highlight this very African jazz.
02:26
And here we have a great opportunity, because this scene, you will see, it has grown.
02:31
There are new ways to experience the concerts.
02:34
It will be standing concerts, not sitting concerts like before.
02:37
So, we brought back more festive bands.
02:39
The Gypsy King, Kezia Jones.
02:41
So, it will dance, it will move in all directions.
02:44
And it's not the only place of the festival, because then we will go to the public stage.
02:49
The fanfares continue to walk in the alleys of Casbah and Medina.
02:53
And so, we have a course that is really nice for people.
02:56
It's a mix of paid and free.
02:59
A mix of styles of music, of times.
03:03
Between the swing of the 50s, 60s, 70s.
03:06
And this new modern jazz, embodied by Leon Fall, who is a brilliant Swiss jazzman.
03:15
Who combines electronic music and jazz.
03:18
So, really, we will have very different facets of jazz, blues too.
03:22
We have very good band musicians.
03:24
So, we have about twenty bands that will come together.
03:28
Young talents, people of jazz, people of other musical styles.
03:32
So, it's really a very different journey.
03:35
And then there are our hotel partners who also participate in the party.
03:40
And so, we try to involve as many people as possible.
03:43
At the same time, on the spaces that we mainly occupy.
03:50
The Palais des Institutions Italiennes is part of the history of jazz time.
03:54
So, we maintain it, but we diversify it.
03:56
We change the experience of people.
03:58
I wanted to talk to you about that.
04:00
The Palais des Institutions Italiennes.
04:02
It is beautiful, it is grandiose.
04:04
There is a lot of space.
04:06
Is it what makes it easier for you, perhaps?
04:08
Better layout, a better fluidity between these scenes inside the Palais.
04:14
Because it's a special setting.
04:16
And of course, the space that we had the chance to see.
04:20
Which is the new space of the great scene, which is the village.
04:25
We can actually talk about villages in jazz time.
04:28
Well, there will be two villages.
04:30
So, two very different experiences.
04:32
And what you were saying is that the Palais has its charm, of course.
04:36
And that's what makes it the identity of the festival.
04:39
It is to be in a very beautiful patio, in a Andalusian Palais.
04:44
With its riads and its spaces.
04:46
But it also has its constraints.
04:48
Mobility, echo, accessibility of people, instruments, things like that.
04:54
But it also allows to have this authenticity.
04:59
Which is very important.
05:01
This side a little retro.
05:02
So we keep with the swing groups, etc.
05:05
And a more open, more modern side with the outdoor gardens.
05:08
So we have this diversity that allows us to play.
05:12
Now the fact of playing inside, outside.
05:14
So there are rooms that are closed.
05:17
At the same time, there are constraints.
05:19
For example, on one of the rooms that needs work.
05:22
So we have to close it to the public for their safety.
05:25
So we adapt to the different constraints.
05:27
To try to make a programming that adapts to each scene.
05:30
For example, if you're going to have intimate jazz,
05:32
you're not going to put it on a big stage.
05:34
It's going to be destructive for the artist.
05:36
And a bad experience for the festival.
05:38
So we really adapt our programming to the atmosphere,
05:41
to the atmosphere of the place, of the space, of the people,
05:44
of the atmosphere we want to bring them.
05:46
Thank you very much for accepting our invitation.
05:50
I know we can stay for hours talking about this festival.
05:53
But in any case...
05:55
We have hours to think about it too.
05:57
Thank you very much for accepting our invitation.
05:59
And I remind you that the festival continues until Sunday.
06:03
Here at the Palais des Institutions Italiennes.
06:07
Thank you, dear viewers, for your loyalty.
06:09
Stay with us.
06:10
The information continues on our different channels.
06:12
Median TV Arabic, Median TV Maghreb, Median TV Africa.
06:15
