00:00I think yesterday we had some people pulling the plug so quickly. Not all of

00:06you, not all of you. There's legitimate criticisms and legitimate concerns. But

00:11there were some yelling and screaming. I didn't get to the Dan Campbell text

00:14about Hollywood Dan and people being disappointed that you know Dan Campbell's

00:21gone all Hollywood and there's a reason why Ben Johnson didn't get a job guys.

00:28I'm just like the other ones that were coming in I knew this would happen once

00:32Goff got his contract. We didn't read all these texts but it kind of

00:36contributed to my overall feeling of why are people so quick to pull the plug

00:44when the long term like I feel like falling back on what we really truly

00:50believe that there is competent people running the organization. That they've

00:56got a really good GM. They got a really good head coach. They have a really good

01:02offensive coordinator. Like these are things that we felt were established and

01:07we're willing and some people seem willing to pull the plug on that two

01:13games in without paying attention to the context of what it's like in the NFL. And

01:22I do think it's important when you look around at what happened last weekend in

01:29the National Football League some of the remarkable results Saints 44 Cowboys 19

01:39Vikings 23 49ers 17. You had Raiders 26 Ravens 23 the Ravens are 0-2

01:52Cardinals 41 Rams 10 Rams are devastated by injuries. Week one Patriots over the

02:01Bengals last night Atlanta over Philadelphia. Philly at home is a big

02:06favorite but nope Goff got paid Hollywood Dan reason Ben Johnson didn't

02:13get a job. And those are the things that I think frustrate me and it came through

02:20on the air and I don't think I handled it well Gator and I'm admitting it now. I think it's

02:25okay. I think that if people are going to pull the plug after two weeks and then

02:33cite things like Hollywood Dan or whatever they want to do I think that's

02:38just it's just foolish and it goes back to what somebody said for which caller it

02:43was it was a brilliant observation may have been one of the Paul's that said

02:48people are going to feel the way they feel just to support their own narrative.

02:53So if if they're gonna lose and go one and one and they're gonna and they

02:58didn't think that this Lions team is gonna be any good they're gonna latch

03:01on to it as quickly as they can because it'll just take a matter of weeks before

03:06it fizzles. But for right now they can crow about it and pound their chest and

03:10say see I told you and then they're gonna find some other reasons. Dan

03:13Campbell just doesn't care. He's too distracted by other things like doing

03:17Applebee's commercials and making sure that he looks good when they go for it

03:21on fourth down or they got to have that fake punt two games into the season

03:24which of course those are ridiculous things to be upset by. Those are reasons

03:28that Dan Campbell the commercials is it's not distracting it's it's offseason

03:32stuff it's stuff that was done probably a well before training camp but people

03:37want to believe what they want to believe they want to get fired up about

03:40stupid stuff and this is definitely stupid stuff. Well look I mean I've made

03:44the comment that people want their athletes and their coaches to do nothing

03:50but work out, practice, go to bed early, and eat healthy. Right. Anything else is

03:57unacceptable. That's just not the way it is. There is some time off. I'm gonna

04:02guess here Gator and I'm gonna I'm gonna assume this is a good guess that Dan

04:07Campbell taping Applebee's commercials didn't take away from his coaching it

04:15took away from his private time. That's my guess. I would think you're right.

04:21Does Dan Campbell strike you as the kind of guy that would put something ahead of

04:40want to say. I'm happy for the Tigers the only problem is when you do those

04:44bullpen days just like Dan Campbell doing the fourth and two fourth and three

04:49it's gonna catch up with you sooner or later. Now the problem is with the Lions

04:53is that nobody was ready for the Lions last year and they had a pretty easy

04:58schedule but they're ready for them this year and it's gonna be a lot different

05:03and now you're gonna see the true coaching of Dan Campbell. Take care, keep

05:07up the good work. Do you believe in the coaching Don? Yes I believe in the

05:12coaching but I had doubts when they didn't do what was proper about getting

05:18the field goal team on or throwing the ball down and stopping the clock.

05:23Somebody didn't do their job. Yeah I mean he said it was him. He was pretty

05:29accountable for it. You could put it on the coach, you could put it on Ben Johnson,

05:34you could put it on whoever. The coach put it on himself. Yeah right. Well I know he took

05:40the blame because he's a coach and that's what most people do when you're

05:44the head coach or when you're the head of anything. You take the blame and you

05:48roll with it until the next week. Thank you for the phone call Don. Everybody has improved in the

05:54NFL. Well not everybody. No. In fact I think we could probably make the case

05:59that the team they beat in the opener unfortunately. I don't think the Rams have improved.

06:10Hey Brian, what's going on? Oh nothing much. The fans are just pretty much

06:16disappointed that when we hear for two or three months leading up to the season

06:20that this is a Super Bowl team, then to come out to perform like that. Fans that don't know,

06:25they think it's just supposed to go smooth all the way. When they're not realizing, it's just two games.

06:30But they need to perform better. We gave the quarterback his money, the coaches,

06:34him doing commercials is nothing, but now all the glory is going to him and they

06:39come out and perform like this the first two games. That's the frustration. I can

06:45see that. Frustration is one thing. Do you think this team's gonna have a good year?

06:48I think they're gonna have a good year, but it's just not gonna be as easy. It's just not gonna be as easy as people think.

06:55Because people winning, the fans in this area winning and thinking, kick it, sell out quick,

07:00everything's gonna be great. It's just not gonna go that way. They might not even win a division.

07:05You just have to wait to the end result and see if they make it. When they get to the playoffs,

07:09we need for them to get to the Super Bowl. Not the NFC Championship game, not none of that.

07:14We need a Super Bowl. And that's what we need, period. I love your show too, fellas.

07:22I said, hey, don't forget, last year the team went 12-5, had a great year, won the division,

07:27went to the NFC title game, but lost in week two at home to Seattle and everybody lost their you

07:33know what. They just lost again in week two. And everybody's losing their you know what again. And

07:38the reason I brought it up last week was because, just remember, they lose on Sunday to Tampa.

07:44Doesn't mean it's the end of the world. And we got some end-of-world calls yesterday.
