00:00The nation's true wealth is its people's good health.

00:03Hence, the president did not think twice to greenlight a joint DOH-DEPED program in a

00:09sectoral huddle in Malacanang that bankrolls a nationwide JAB campaign to protect school

00:15kids from the deadly effects of polio, HPV, rubella, measles, among others.

00:22And as our Alan Francisco reports, the financial wherewithal to fund this ambitious campaign

00:27is 23% more than last year's and 40% higher than in 2021.

00:36The Department of Health will implement the Vacuna Escuela program aimed at vaccinating

00:41Filipino children against various diseases, including measles, rubella, tetanus, diphtheria,

00:48hepatitis B, polio, among others.

00:51This is part of the National Immunization Program.

00:54According to Health Secretary Chedoro Herbosa, the Vacuna Escuela program will be launched

00:58on October 7 this year for students in grades 1, 4, and 7.

01:04So we have a big catch-up, then we will restore our previous immunization rate and strengthen

01:11the National Immunization Program.

01:13We will do this starting October.

01:15This is our program, I invited the President to help us and lead us in the Vacuna Escuela.

01:24It is a free vaccine for grade 1 and grade 7, they will be given a measles and rubella

01:30vaccine and tetanus and diphtheria.

01:33So we will also be able to get zero-dose children.

01:36Also, for grade 4 girls, 9 years old, they will be given a human papillomavirus vaccine

01:46or anti-cervical cancer vaccine.

01:49Secretary Herbosa has invited President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. to lead the event, which he

01:55mentioned earlier during the sectoral meeting presided over by the President.

01:59Although the program will initially be conducted in public schools, the Secretary stated that

02:04public schools will still accommodate students from private institutions who wish to participate.

02:10The DOH targets to vaccinate around 2 million children annually to provide protection against

02:15diseases.

02:16The DOH is also collaborating with the Department of the Interior and local government.

02:23How is the coordination of your department with the DILG?

02:27I understand it is in the smallest unit of the government in Barangay, sir.

02:32So, I have a program right now, Puro Kalusugan.

02:35The local government units are really monitoring the fully immunized child as one of those

02:41parameters.

02:42They will not be defeated by the seal of good government that the DILG is giving.

02:50They will not be defeated if their immunization rate is low.

02:54Meanwhile, the government is also focused on combating dengue and leptospirosis cases.
