00:00The story about Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, eating their neighbors' pets has long been
00:04debunked by both police and city managers in the area. However, that did not stop Donald Trump
00:10from echoing the lie, which started on Facebook via unsubstantiated rumors.
00:15They're eating the dogs, the people that came in, they're eating the cats.
00:19Now, even after the Haitian community in Springfield has said they are being harassed
00:23and are fearful for their safety, Republican VP candidate J.D. Vance has repeated the claims again.
00:29He appeared on CNN on Sunday night, saying the story was based on first-hand accounts
00:34from his constituents, telling the interviewer, quote,
00:37If I have to create stories so that the American media actually pays attention
00:40to the suffering of the American people, that's what I'm going to do.
00:44He was then pressed by interviewer Dana Bash, who asked what he meant by creating stories,
00:49to which he responded, I say that we're creating a story,
00:52meaning we're creating the American media, focusing on it.
00:55Vance seems to mean focusing on the immigrants who now live in Ohio,
00:58who local businesses say have been a boon to the town,
01:01which lost many citizens after factories closed down a decade ago.
01:05It's worth mentioning that J.D. Vance is currently a sitting senator for Ohio.
